We loved staying at Roca River Camp. This is a more personal and exclusive camp where you feel more like friends staying at Ross and Caro's house; which is just what we wanted. No big crowds of people here.
The camp offers high standard tented safari ensuite accommodation overlooking the hippopotamus-filled Mara River on one side and the Masai Mara on the other. The sitting room/ bar area is excellent for unwinding after one of the twice daily game drives and meals outside around the table are excellent.
We loved the wildlife wandering through the camp, especially Eminem the "camp hippo" who comes to his wallow by the fire pit every evening and starts to snore.
The game drives were excellent with guide/ driver and spotter working hard to find the local lion and elephant and the more distant wildebeest migration. We also enjoyed a walking safari wander and a nearby early morning hot air balloon ride over the Mara.
Well run, great fun and a trip of a lifetime.

We are 3 couples traveling together and this was our third camp in Kenya on a 13 day safari adventure. Everywhere we’ve been has been great, but I must say the Roca River Camp felt like the most authentic African experience.
Our hosts, Caro and Ross were terrific. They made us feel like part of their family. Ross took us out on game drives every day and made for a wonderful experience seeing so much different wildlife and learning a lot about the Maasai Mara region
While the accommodations are in tents, It was very comfortable and we felt like we were truly in the wild while having pretty much every luxury we wanted. It was hard not to overeat as every meal was wonderful with plenty of fresh food always prepared to be incredibly tasty.
I must also give a shout out to the staff here which were wonderful to engage with. Julius was a great help on our game drives, and I need to give a special shout out to Joel who prepared many of our meals. He was incredibly friendly and gracious.
I would definitely recommend this place for anyone that wants an authentic African experience.

My wife and I have stayed in many of Masai Mara's wonderful variety of camps over the years so it was a really pleasant surprise to discover Roca River Camp. This camp has been in existence for about three years and is evolving into a beautiful truly unspoilt gem in the Masai Mara. Caro and Ross, the owners of the camp have gone to great lengths to create a haven where man can share the Masai Mara with nature and blend in without spoiling the surrounds. The camp and support structure have been developed sympathetically with the environment and the animals taking priority. The tents are old world style and are furnished as such. Each tent has an individual view and is furnished with excellent taste. Our tent had an undisturbed view of the Mara plains and each morning we woke to either a herd of elephant gazing on the plains or a herd of hippos returning from their night time grazing. Two of the mornings we were woken by the gentle whoosh of a hot air balloon drifting past at tree level. The old style bucket showers are filled by the Roca River team whenever you feel like a shower. There was sufficient water that with two of us sharing, we never ran out. Toilets are flushing toilets. The beds are super comfortable with crisp white sheets. I do not think I have slept so well for a long time. There are a couple of lounge tents with comfortable sofas where you can sit and watch the world go by or just read a book. Meals at the camp are a real feature and Caro had her team primed to set up a spot under the trees which varied for most meals. Breakfast on the banks of the Roca River was probably my favorite with a large crocodile on the opposite bank and a large family of Hippos basking in the morning sun. The camp has a fleet of four wheel drive vehicles, we went on several game drives. Each drive was a different experience and we never failed to be impressed. The whole Roca River team were always smiling and ready to do anything that was asked of them. This camp is a definite must do. You will not be disappointed.
