After spending three nights at this lovely B&B, I highly recommend it to all. If you might enjoy staying in one of the most prestigious landmarks in the area, the Chateau de Rixensart, this is for you. Château de Rixensart was begun in the 17th century by the Mérode family, whose descendants still inhabit the castle today, and is one of the most important houses of Belgian nobility. The design of the large garden that surrounds the chateau was inspired by the design of André Le Nôtre, the landscape architect for King Louis XIV at Versailles. Beginning in August 2011, a wing of the Château was turned into the lovely Pavillon B&B, with six total rooms; four on the main floor, and two on the second level. Each room is different-- all with its own bath. My room was lovingly furnished with a most comfortable king bed, an antique armoire, a writing desk; a small table by the window, with two chairs. The sparkling clean bathroom was perfect, with a bathtub and hand-held shower, and plenty of space for my personal things. (My accompanying friend, who chose another room, had a stall shower.) On the main floor, near the reception area is a lounge with comfortable chairs, reading material, and a TV. A nice place to relax if one wishes. The lower level contains two dining rooms for guests. Each room is furnished with beautiful antique furniture and objet d’art, with vases of flowers everywhere. Along with lovely china and dinnerware, napkins and linens, a delicious breakfast awaits the guests. Fresh croissants, rolls, fruit & juices, coffee and/or tea, a tray of cold meats and cheeses, along with eggs cooked to order, if desired. The time of breakfast is geared to the guests’ schedule! One of the main reasons the experience is so enjoyable, is related to the management. Anne-Marie Maes has years of experience managing hotels in Belgium, and decided to put all this experience to work taking care of her own guests…and she does it very well. She has help from Donna, who is a dynamo at taking care of her guests every whim! Anne-Marie knows the area very well and will give suggestions for locations of interest, including restaurants. Ask her about possible tours of the château on weekends. The location of the B&B is walking distance (or a short taxi) from the Rixensart train station, which is only about 15 miles from central Brussels. If you fly into Brussels Zaventem Airport, train connections at Gare Nord in Brussels will bring you to Rixensart -- a lovely community in itself, along with nearby Genval, and is a good place to visit.…
