A nice campground with picnic tables, pack hanging poles and food storage boxes. All greatly needed due to the ground squirrels. Not a lot of shade. Great proximity to Bright Angel Stream, which was greatly appreciated. It was 106F in mid-Sep!
Bright Angel Campground is a wonderful respite after a hot day of hiking down the S Kaibab trail. The restrooms are clean, the sites offer sufficient privacy, and the cold creek is refreshing. I'd suggest making reservations for dinner and breakfast at Phantom Ranch. Great food topped off a wonderful experience.
The campsites feel distinctly separate even though they are close together. We camped right next to the creek and heard nothing but each other and the burbling of the creek. The nights are pitch dark, making stargazing easy and jaw-dropping. There is drinking water and toilets (often requiring bucket flush), so life is pretty easy here. I love BA for its natural beauty and its proximity to Phantom, when you need a lemonade with ice.
Husband and I got a 3 day pass to hike the GC with 2 nights at the Bright Angel Campground. Looked up a lot of reviews and such, and were super excited to go. Not disappointed. The camping lots were a great size, each with space for a tent, a picnic table, a foot locker for your food and stuff, and a pole to hang your backpacks on. There are clear instructions on how they want you to store your food and packs because of the animals. There was also potable water there, and a restroom with 2 flushable toilets and 2 sinks in each male/female restroom. What a treat to have a real toilet and sink! You can't beat the view from the campsites, right along the river with gorgeous trees and canyon walls all around you. We felt very safe there, and left our tent up while we went out hiking each day with no problems. It is also about half a mile from the Phantom Ranch. We were lucky enough to do a stew dinner and a breakfast (both of which were delicious after a long day of hiking, and plenty to go around!). The canteen there also served some food, wine, and beer, with an option to send a postcard and buy some gifts. Plenty of board games to play at the tables too. We loved our short stay down at the bottom and hope to come back!…
