Ancient well-preserved house, with a large garden facing the Euganean hills, where the last years of the poet are told (he died in Arquà in 1374). Beautiful the staircase with the external loggia and the internal frescoes.
The residence seems to have been donated to Petrarch by Francesco I da Carrara, Lord of Padua; it did not undergo major changes after 1374, with the succession of various owners, until in the mid-16th century Paolo Valdezocco had the loggia with the staircase added and the frescoes inspired by the works of Francesco Petrarca painted. The last owner, Cardinal Pietro Silvestri, in 1875 bequeathed the house to the Municipality of Padua: to this day it is still the rightful owner, so much so that the staff that receives and accompanies visitors depends on the Culture, Tourism, Museums and Libraries Sector of the capital of Padua.

We passed by Arqua’ for a Saturday of relaxation and food and wine tourism. The Petrarch's house is a small jewel, the house is well preserved, inside you can admire decorations on the walls with frescoed bands with floral motifs.
At the entrance you are greeted by a guide who illustrates the characteristics and, if you want, you can watch an explanatory film of about 30 minutes.
Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Building of historical importance with garden in good condition of restoration. The explanatory video of Petrarch’s life is well done and tells briefly his story and his movements around Italy at the time. Beautiful view of the Euganean hills.

Very nice last house of the poet Petrarch decorated with frescoes mostly well preserved since the 14th century. Many explanations, by video upon entering and texts in the different rooms. Very friendly keeper who gives very kind details..in French!

very beautiful and unmissable if you come to visit Arqua'.. the video is interesting and the garden is wonderful as is the staircase... the lady at the entrance was very kind and knowledgeable..

The house is integrated into the village, it is very pretty and the environment is very romantic. It's a shame that we don't have more access to the gardens, we visit few rooms, but we get an idea of the poet's life in this setting. In any case, the entry is inexpensive.

The house of Petrarca's last years is worth seeing. At the beginning there is also a video that tells of Petrarca's stay first in Padua and then in Arquà where he died in 1374. The place is worth the visit and also Arquà Petrarca, which is really very pretty.

The village is worth a quick visit, if you are in Arquà during opening hours it is worth taking a look at Petrarca's house. In reality it is only interesting to see an ancient house with a beautiful garden. A few minutes to watch the video on Petrarca. Nothing more than some furnishings that are said to date back to the 1300s.

I am in Arquà Petrarca for work. Today we organize a guided tour of the town and go to see Petrarca's house. It's the last weekend of June 2023 and it's very hot. I await guests in the main car park 🅿️ at the end of the town. To reach the house, you have to walk uphill a bit, but it's worth it. At the entrance I find one of the managers waiting for us. I ask if I can come in, he says yes. The small garden at the entrance is very well kept and is characterized by hedges and a few trees that offer shade to the house. The rooms are not fully furnished, on the lower floor there is a screening room. I was struck by the decorated ceilings of the rooms, especially on the first floor. The external staircase from which you can see the Euganean hills is very beautiful and scenic.

Buongiorno.. è consentito l’accesso alla casa con il cane?

Non lo so visto che non mi sono posta il problema avendo lasciato a casa il mio. Proverei a contattare il museo e a chiedere. Comunque fuori c'è un giardinetto ma ripeto non saprei. Inoltre non ho visto nessuno con il cane.

Quello che c'è che non è molto ma ben ambientato.
Ti consiglio di attendere la bella stagione e prenotare la visita accompagnato dalla compagnia in costume che ti racconta e recita.
