We, a group of 18, comprising of Malaysians and Singaporeans from Yongo tour, came here in the September of 2023
We stayed 4 nights in upper Omalo and hiked up to several villages
Beautiful sublimal landscapes although the roads are treacherous and winding.
Our guesthouse served delicious Georgian/Tusheti meals.
A memorable stay. Would like to visit again

I think this was my favorite part of Georgia! So serene!
The ride from the village of Pshaveli to Omalo through Abano pass took us about 5 hours by our Toyota Hilux and seemed to be endless but beautiful at the same time.
Once in Omalo we hiked to a gorgeous village of Dartlo and back to Omalo. It was hard to believe that people live here so cut off from other civilization. Dartlo was extraordinarly beautiful. Had no issue with dogs at all on this trail.

Hiking Is Dangerous. Beware! Beautiful area and villages are safe, but hiking is treacherous with the vicious sheep dogs. 100% guaranteed you will be attacked by these dogs. Sheep herders have little control and questionable interest in protecting you. I fought off 4 dogs on a trail with my poles. I took all measures to deal with them. Nothing works unless someone helps. A lone multi-day hiker was attacked 5 times and he will never do it again. Guest house and Tusheti Visitor center is dismissive. Only go if you are comfortable in dealing with aggressive dogs or want a new experience. It’s an odd thrill.

I have been all over the world and the area is beautiful. However, the sheep dogs are grossly downplayed in guidebooks and by locals. We talked to a Dutch hiker who was stalked 6 times. He said he won’t be back. Today we were surrounded by them with their masters near. The sheepherders couldn’t control them. I don’t know how we got out without being bitten. We are leaving a day early as there isn’t much to do unless this is your idea of having fun. Had no problems in Stepandsminda and it was probably more beautiful. Locals are really nice but want to be able to do things outdoors.

It is (according to some Dutch specialized page) among 10 most dangerous road in the world - the one to Omalo from Pshaveli. It is also beautiful, wild, amazing and worth going just as the whole National Park. Remember that driving here is dangerous and hiking just as much (I don't mean short walks). Hiking trails are occasionally hard to find, nearly ever crowded and crossing the river should come as no surprise. But the whole place is astoundingly beautiful. And people here are great!

Три дня в этом дивном месте пролетели как один день. Потрясающие горы. Сторожевые башни. Горные реки из которых пили ледяную чистейшую воду. Незабываемое гостеприимство тушинцев. Хочется еще раз вернуться в эти чудесные места.

In this region, you'll easily feel being put back into the Middle Ages of Europe. You'll experience an almost untouched nature, high mountains, fast-flowing rivers, beauftiful mountain rivers and milky brooks, large meadows with a lot of blossoming healing herbs, flocks of sheep and proud hospitable and beautiful people.
To reach this paradise, make sure to put away your fear of hight, as to Tusheti one of the worlds' most dangerous roads is leading. Take your own fruits with you as well as other groceries you may need, as there are no shops in Tusheti. Also take proper trail shoes with us. Transportation is expansive there. You'll be better adived to explore this region on foot. For this, you'll need time, of course.

Hi, my husband and I will rent a 4x4 car for our roadtrip to Omalo. Can anybody tell me about their experience driving the road (in August)? We are on the fence of whether we should try ourselves or hire a driver. Thanks a lot!
