Monday the 19th June and this was yet another statue we saw in Thassos Town (Limenas).
It is located on a small grass area along 18IS Oktovriou, in the Port area of the Town. A small amphitheatre shaped seating area in nearby in the pedestrianised area.
The white marble bust pays hommage to
Augustus Theologitis. He was born 1892 in Panagia on the Island of Thassos. He died
on the 4th January 1975 aged 83 and he is buried on Thassos. It stands on a plain white marble plinth and faced out across the Thassos Channel towards mainland Greece.
It depicts Theologitis wearing his badges and medals of office.
He studied law at the University of Constantinople. He was a journalist as well as a politician, a member of Parliament. He served in a number of ministerial roles including, Post & Telegraphs, Public Order and Northern Greece.
He was also the General Governor of both Epirus and Western Macedonia.
