What a wonderful surprise to our journey!!
The hike to the bridge was difficult with both rough terrain and steps. It is well worth the climb. The views are incredible!!

The Bastei is easily accessible by bus. Beautiful forest paths lead to great field formations and the Bastei. Unfortunately we were only on site at 10am and there was already a lot going on. Without regard, large tour groups are smuggled across the narrow stony paths. Even the lyre box man who played on the North Sea coast did not really contribute to the fact that you could simply enjoy the landscape.
Tip: Be on site as early as possible

I don’t even know how it happened that I had never heard of this place before the trip. A friend's daughter told us about him. She visited the river below in late autumn, but these mountains made an impression on her. We were in April, but it was a cloudy day, and there was still not enough greenery. But I definitely recommend visiting this park from Dresden, Prague, Berlin. Nature of stunning beauty. You can walk for a long time, there is a circular route. And the village nearby is pretty. But it would be best to go down to the river. It seems that these are the places where German storytellers were inspired. There is a large parking lot and you pay at the machine. At the top of the park there is a beautiful hotel with stunning views, but the price probably corresponds to these same views, so if you are planning a two-day trip, it is better to look for accommodation in a village near the river. Entrance to the park is free, but there is an area with bridges that cost 3 euros - it's worth it, as this is where the best views of the bridge open. If you're passing through, stop by for at least a couple of hours, you won't regret it!

Hi
I have just returned from a fabulous 8 days trek of the Malerweg, Germany. We have chosen BOOKATREKKING.com for our sleeping arrangement along the trail.
BOY, that was a huge MISTAKE. We were a group of six experienced hikers 4 males and 2 females, all friends but not in a relationship with each other. The sleeping arrangements were terrible. In three nights, we were placed in rooms with one queen size beds, which caused extreme discomfort for everyone. In three mornings, no breakfast was included. Mind-you rates were not cheap.
But this was not the worst. In one night, we were placed in a hostel which was 4 km off the trail without any possible transportation (road under construction), which caused us 4 more km to the 120 km trail, evening, and morning. In the hostel all six of us were placed in one old Circus wagon (with wheels and springs that moved every time one was moving in his bed), sheets and blankets not included. We were all in this small wagon in 2 large bank-beds with no running water and bathroom. The nearest facility was 30 meters up heel. Mind you none of us is a spring chicken.
I would strongly advise the reader to seriously consider not to use the services of this website BOOKATREKKING.com for travel arrangements.

Visited the Saxon Switzerland National Park in mid September and loved every one of my 3 days here, despite the rain that we had to deal with. Even though it’s not a large area, I was surprised to learn there are quite a number of trails here, of various length and levels of difficulty. We used Pirna as a base for exploring (it was a good choice!), and used a car and our own legs to get from one place/hike to another. My favourite day trip here was from a Spa Town of Rathen to a town of Wehlen and back to Rathen again. It included a ferry to get the the other side of the Elbe, a little bit of exploring of the lovely two towns (Rathen, Wehlen), a hike to Amselsee Reservoir and then through the picturesque moss-covered Schwedenlöcher valley, onto the Bastei Plateau with its famous Bastei Bridge, multitude of beautiful viewing points on the bridge, river and nearby rock formations, as well as a visit to the Neurathen rock castle (worth the detour!). Once we got to the town of Wehlen, we rested a little bit at a local cafe, enjoyed some coffee and delicious cake, and later walked back to Rathen on a walking/bike path along the Elbe River. All in all a beautiful way of seeing this part of the region.
Other enjoyable hikes we did in the park were the one to Schrammsteine lookout (through the Grosse Schramm Tor) and one to Gamrig Rock. Both were just enough challenging (definitely not difficult, just involving a lot of up and down on stairs/ladders, and as such hard on knees for those with knee problems), and offering truly gorgeous and rewarding views. I would recommend all 3 hikes when in the park.
We also hiked them in the rain, and it was actually a good decision for a rainy day, as we weren’t as soaking wet as the woods provide a lot of cover.
My only complaint is that the trails are not well marked and so we managed to get lost a few times on the less frequented trails. Some trails also don’t have great parking options. All in all, plan ahead if driving, and make sure you have a GPS or an app of some sort that can help you navigate some of those trails.
Highly recommended. I sure hope to come back some day to explore even more of this beautiful area!

Great park with spectacular views. Paved trails (with steps) are available for tourists as well as trails for those more accustomed to hiking. There is a charge for parking, but most trails are accessible free of charge. Great place for photographers.

Um lugar incrível, fizemos 17 km de caminhada através do parque. É tudo maravilhoso, muita natureza, ar puro e vistas fantásticas. Também tem o passeio de barco pelos cânions.

Bastei Bridge is stunning and the area is fascinating. The natural beauty of the park with the rock formations is easily appreciated. There were rock climbers to watch and many view points. There were also lovely breezes on a very hot day!

Hi, Will be travelling to Dresden and I am interested in a day visit of Saxon Switzerland. Won't have a car and looking for excursion or "do it yourself". Read that quite a bit of hiking is involved and I have a bad hip and knee. Walking long on uneven surfaces gets hard. Do you know of tours, way to do it that involves less walking? As a point of comparison, last year did the walls of Dubrovnik and Plitvice park and was ok. Thanks in advance for your help.

Can I enter the park with my own transport.
Can I walk the hiking trials on my own?
Boat trip in the gorge?

Hi, me, my sister and mom will rent a car in Prague so we can go to the park and Dresden. My question is: can we go by ourselves to the park? Is there a tour service but inside the park (not living from Prague or Dresden)?

Hi - Me and my wife will be visiting the park in first week of August. We have a 22 month old daughter. We have following questions:
* Are there baby / stroller friendly trails in the park
* Would we find transport to start at different points within the park?
* Where should we stay to minimize travel and maximize time in the park given we wouldn't be able to do too much walking with the baby (we can stay in Dresden / Bad Schandau or any other place)
Thanks.

Hi, I'm planing a weekend hiking trip to Saxon Switzerland but I'm struggling to fine affordable accommodation in Bad Schandau (I'm on a traveling student budget). I would prefer staying as close to the park seeing that I'm going there by public transport and would like to spend as much as possible time in the park. Any suggestions on where to stay when visiting Saxon Switzerland?
Thanks

1. Is it possible to visit the place travelling through public transport?
2. How many days are worth to get the charm?
3. Is there any possibility to stay inside the park? If so do you recommend?
4. Approx cost for the trip for 2 audults.
Best regards
