Bring a kayak, you’ll love Yardie Creek.

We absolutely loved Yardie Creek. One of our favorite experiences in Exmouth.
While the short 2km return hike atop the creek was quite nice and we spotted some Rock Wallabies, kayaking down its tranquil waters in our little blow up kayak was by far the best part.
It’s only a small body of water and a very easy paddle, but we took our time and spent an hour watching an abundance of birds and rock wallabies.
With no motorized vessels allowed, this is an amazingly relaxing and beautiful place to explore.

Yes to Yardie

Great place to visit. Easy trek wand if you’re not too steady on your feet follow the bitumen path until it’s time for you to stop. Definitely recommend honking the boat, you won’t be disappointed by the lively and knowledgeable guiding and eagle-eye wildlife spotting. Great to see the creek from top and bottom too.

Stick to the path, be aware of others. Take water. Enjoy.

Yardi Creek Boat Tour
Eyl 2021
Well worth the drive around to Yardi Creek from Exmouth - great tour, made very interesting by "Boxy" who certainly knew a thing or two about the creek and local history - so pleased we did the tour

It’s such a scenic place to visit and great contrast after seeing so many beautiful beaches. We really enjoyed seeing Yardie Creek from the boat ride. Our host was fantastic and whilst being so funny, also knew his stuff. This was a highlight of our visit.

Unique wildlife and landscapes

Yardie Creek is at the end of the paved road that runs north-south across the entire national park. There is a car park (with toilet) here and continuing south requires a high-performance 4WD vehicle suitable for overcoming the river crossing (when the tide allows it) at the mouth of the creek. The Yarde creek trail is an easy walk of about 300m. At the beginning of the trail there is the boarding point for the short cruise along the river which, however, must have been booked online. From the small lookout at the end of the trail starts a path of moderate difficulty that allows you to continue along the top of the river bank and reach the first bend. This path of a few hundred meters allows you to see the river, the red rock walls and the rich animal life that lives there. Very high is the possibility of seeing the black-flanked rock wallaby (Petrogale lateralis), (we have seen about 20), an animal that is very rare elsewhere. There are other smaller animals among the rocks such as the spiny-tailed monitor (Varanus acanthurus) that we photographed. Birds of prey such as the eastern osprey (Pandion cristatus) and the nankeen kestrel (Falco cenchroides) constantly fly over the creek. More difficult to see are the other birds that live on the rock faces or the few sandy stretches at the bottom of the gorge. Among them the Pacific reef-heron (Egretta sacra) and colonies of parrots like galah (Eolophus roseicapilla) and little corella (Cacatua sanguinea). This trail allows you to enjoy an excellent view of the Creek and its unique wildlife.
