Beautiful place. Away from the bustle of the main markets. A lovely walk amidst lush green Himalayan forest trees. The terrain is on a steep slope and it was a good trek back up the hill. A great place to get some sunshine, peace, exercise and enjoy the lush wilderness while painting, reading a book or simply gazing over the hills.

This is one of the best places in Darjeeling to enjoy nature and be in unison with it. There are lovely lofty trees and floral garden in the slopes of the hills. There is also a very nice nursery sporting exquisite rare plants. This is a huge sprawlking garden located near the bazar /busstand area of Darjeeling.

This is arguably the most underrated attraction of Darjeeling, set up in the mid nineteenth century as an annex of the then' Royal Botanic Gardens of Calcutta ', by the British on the lines of Royal botanical gardens of kew, London. The place is currently maintained by the directorate of forest, government of West Bengal.
The garden has the variety of plants, from towering conifer trees to succulent, herbal, orchids, cactuses in pots. Its Alpine and higher altitude mountainous flora, the 3/4 British Era green houses are worth looking, even if you are not interested in plants at all. You will definitely like to walk beneath the towering trees and the garden, mammals and various avifauna. The best time to visit is in the morning, where you made witness clouds kissing the trees of the garden, making a serene atmosphere.
The garden may not see very modern, but the staff seemed taking care of everything.
Of The Three gates of the garden, Lochha Nagar gate is just the standard has the shortest approach of the three.
overall, you will love spending a good time here, hiking uphill and downhill along the concrete and the gravel paths. do not miss the flowers of here.
This is a must-visit place, I wonder why most tour operators and travelers avoid this.
Entry fee is 20 and there is no restriction on photography.

This is a lovely quiet space in Darjeeling - quite a hill climb and not many taxis so if walking is difficult get a car there and back. The gardens even in winter were interesting for the range of Himalayan trees and plants. The orchid house even had a display in flower in the middle of December.

The Botanical Garden in Darjeeling is named after William Lloyd who was the owner of the Lloyd's Bank during the British India days. He gave as a gift this sprawling 40 acres of area on an open hill slope for making one of the best gardens in Asia. The land was handed over to Sir Ashley Eden and the garden was established in 1878. Eden was then the secretary to the Government of Bengal. There is a hospital Eden Sanatorium located just above the garden which is named after him. The Botanical Garden was laid out under the supervision of Sir Gorge King who was then the superintendent of the garden. It has been designed over three sections.
The upper section is where you will see the various indigenous Himalayan plantation. The garden actually started from here to study the flora of Darjeeling Himalayan region. Subsequently plants from nearby Sikkim area like rhododendrons have also been added in this section. The Middle section is where there is a large collection of fern and conifer trees along with Alpine collections. There is also a separate greenhouse or a conservatory here that houses sections like the Cactus displaying some 150 species. Another great attraction here is the Orchiderium that has some 2,500 orchids on display and showcasing some 50 varieties. Most of the orchids have been brought in from the Singalila National Park which is located on the way to Sandakphu and at a short distance from Tumling.

Много зелени, чисто и красиво. Немноголюдно, что для нас было огромным плюсом. Есть на что посмотреть и просто отдохнуть в тишине и покое. Возможно, идти до парка не очень удобно, но однозначно стоит!

It was recommended by our Hotel Staff at Cedar Inn to visit these gardens. It was a very good decision that we made. We walked to the gardens, about 5 minutes down hill, from the main bus stand. They have three entrances from different directions. The entry fee is Rs 20 per pax. This place is not any local sight seeing tour itinerary, but should be. Though, remember that you will have to walk up hill and down hill. If you want in nature and a forest, visit this place. The place has high forest trees, well trimmed gardens, glass house (three) blooming with flowers, an orchid glass house (it was not the season when we visited). We spent about 1 hour at the place and enjoyed our nature walk. Because it is not on any local sight seeing itinerary, there are no crowds. Ideally, go for a picnic to this place. You will love it.

What could have been a real green lung in the heart of town and a good place for children and the elderly, is gloomy and forbidding; guarded by locks and tickets. We request the Gorkhaland administration to please look at parks elsewhere - as in kalimpong - and see what they can do by way of pruning the excessive foliage and also having a more open and friendly culture. Perhaps increasing the ticket prices might help.

Lovely garden . Far from the clogged , dirty roads of Darjeeling main town. Really worth a visit. Better than the Bengal Natural History Museum anyday.
