On the contrary to some of the reviews, I found it very beautiful and peaceful. I was not bothered at all, by anyone and actually got most of the temple to myself and walked around pretty freely.

I do say that this should not be a priority in Yangshuo as nature pretty much trumps everything else here. But if you spend 5 nights there like I did, you should have the time to explore this.

Like the rest of Yangshuo, I found the folklore and myths around it very interesting.

Not a must, but a nice peaceful walkabout.

Entrance fee 20 RMB

Tour was in Chinese, not sure if there was English option.

Couple of very strict rules of conduct.
1. Step OVER the step into the various rooms. Never step ON the step.
2. Do not take pictures of the worshipers.
They emphasis this again and again.

This is a standard working temple, none of the Buddhas were especially special. You see similar if not the same type of temple anywhere else in China.

One uncomfortable part was the "opportunity" to pray and worship and DONATE to the temple. We were really pressured to do so. Talk about peer pressure.

This temple has a couple of gimmicks. They have "lucky" stickers that they stick on your shirt to say you have paid the entrance fee and then they give you an opportunity to stick your sticker on the "lucky" wall.

The other gimmick is a 1300 year old tortoise which is alive and it's stomach is placed on a podium which immobilizes the tortoise. You get to rub it and pet it, doing so gives you good fortune. Of course, you are encouraged to donate.

We never would have considered on coming here if it wasn't part of the tour. Do not come here for the express purpose of seeing a temple. You will be disappointed. There are many other temples that are a better option.

In the parking lot, there are a good number of food carts and trinket sellers.

This attraction is usually bundled with the Banyan Tree attraction.

inside the temple, the monk ask us to buy Kirin (麒麟) for at leaset RMB1800 but I say no. Then the monk get the tour guide to keep asking me to pray and so that he can bring my boyfriend to an "office". My boyfriend said he has not enough cash but the monk ask my boyfriend to swipe his credit card. In that "office", you will find at least 10 credit card device terminal. I have been visited to many temple but this is the first temple that really make me shock that they accept credit card for donation! Sorry to say, this temple is conman temple Those visiting this temple, please becareful.

Jianshan temple is worth a visit if you have several days in Guilin. It is close to the Moon Hill and Li River bamboo raft cruising and so is an easy inclusion. The temple dates from the 6th Century, but has been rebuilt several times. It is "working temple" with resident monks and appears to serve the religious needs of the local community, although there is a "gouging" element to many aspects of its operation (entrance fee, ridiculous prices for incense votives, etc.). Neither the temple nor the grounds are extensive and it can be visited fully in a little over an hour.
