Really enjoyed the tour of the bead factory where a lovely local woman showes us the complex process to make hand made beads. The mission of Kazuri is to empower single mothers. Unbelievable craftmanship make each piece truly unique. I thrilled with the jewelry I purchased and proud to support local woman. Highly recommend you go and support by buy jewelry or adorable clay animals.

A great tour, BUT be sure you ask for a discount on your purchase. I did not know that you could do this, and now I feel like I was “taken”, when we paid the prices stated on the wall.

Lovely experience. Tour was free, about 15 minutes, and very interesting. Parking on site.
The beads and jewellery are then available to purchase from the shop, but there is no pressure at all.
Nice coffee/drinks in the cafe. Only crisps and a small selection of cakes for food though, so not a lunch destination.

My sister and I love to make jewelry and this was such an interesting place to go to to see how the beads were made. The ladies were so fun to meet and we bought some beautiful beads to make necklaces with!

Beautiful beads and jewelry! This place has some more unique and higher quality jewelry. You can tell it's not as much as a "factory" like the other place.

We loved visiting the factory! The tour was great and showed the facilities/process for making beads. We came on a Sunday which is the off day for workers, so we didn’t get to meet any of the craftswomen, but it was still a lovely visit. The shop had a wide variety of beautiful beaded items at very fair prices. They made wonderful gifts to bring home.

What a lovely experience! After a morning at Sheldrick's elephant orphanage we went to the Kazuri Beads Factory, at their (relatively) new location on Langata Road.
It's a good thing we checked Kazuri's location on Google Maps, which is in fact opposite the KSPCA and next to Karen Green shopping mall, because at first, our tour driver wanted to take us to another company masquerading as Kazuri Beads in a different part of Karen! We discovered that this other company is actually an imitator of Kazuri, called Kobe Tough beads, which set up shop recently and runs a copycat shop, offering drivers various financial incentives to redirect tourists!
Our experience at Kazuri Beads was very interactive, with some of our group painting beads and dancing along with the women who put on a show for us. We learnt that Kazuri is one of Kenya's oldest heritage brands, worn by famous personalities such as Meryl Streep during her time in Nairobi whilst filming Out of Africa.
I'd highly recommend a visit to Kazuri - 30 minutes is enough for just a quick looksie or just to buy some necklaces/bracelets etc in the on-site shop - but give it an hour if you'd like the full, in-depth tour sprinkled with some history about Kazuri's origins, their process and to appreciate the ladies skill and dedication to their work.

Got to go to the factory and see the process of the making of the beads, such a lovely guide who explained from start to finish how they are made right through to being sold good fun to see
The ladies were all so friendly and welcoming, as I walked around the different sections to see what they were doing and how much work goes into every
At the end I went to the shop to see the final work ready to go and they have such a variety of items to look at got a few gifts to take home so much to choose from

Heard the factory was now bought out by a luggage store. Did the bead factory move? If so, where is it now located?

I haven’t heard that either. My sister was just there 3 weeks ago.

I want to buy beads from your factory,, how do I go about it
Yazıldığı tarih: 31 Ekim 2019
Easiest way is to buy directly from/in the factory where the beads are made. Otherwise you can place an order

Is the factory open on Mondays? I want to make sure that we'll get to see the women making the beads when we visit.

Yes, it's normally open from Monday to Friday.

Hi! Can you buy loose beads there, or just finished pieces? Thanks in advance for the info!!
Yazıldığı tarih: 17 Mart 2017
The shop at Kazuri Beads is wonderful , lots of loose and strrug beads as well as some beautiful pottery, they have jugs etc with lions paw print patterns ,I always buy a piece when I'm there . Also good and cheap place to have a cup of coffee. Make sure you ask for a tour of the factory and try to get there before 4pm as the ladies go home then. Wonderful place

I leave next Sunday for Nairobi. I would like to get an idea on price of jewelry....necklaces, bracelets, earrings, single beads. I assume they do not take credit cards so I want to have enough cash with me. Would appreciate your help.

Hi
It's quite a few months now since I visiting. But I felt the necklac s were very reasonably priced. Certainly way cheaper than buying the same here in Australia.
Probably around $20 for a nice necklace but there were all sorts of sizes.
They do accept credit cards.
Remember to tip the lady who guides you around, I think they rely on those little bits of income.
Also as a general rule for currency US Dollars are preferred over the local currency but they accept both.
The Tin Shed Cafes in the area are nice little places (there are a few I think) to stop for lunch or a coffee.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi can you tell me, do we have to pre-book a tour of the Kazuri Bead Factory, or can we just arrive a have one? Thank you, DONNA
Yazıldığı tarih: 22 Şubat 2016
You can just show up, no appointment necessary. We were there at 3pm in the afternoon when the women in the factory have a prayer break. They sang a lovely song and shared a touching prayer. I was really glad our group had a chance to be a part of it.
