I couldn't recommend this more! Not only you'll be able to make the most beautiful prints but also learn about the history of paper marbling from the lovely hosts Betül and Ali. If you get a chance to do this workshop, ask them about Spanish style of marbling. You will be impressed!

We had a great time doing the Marbling workshop. The teachers are very nice, patient and knowledgeable. Next time we come to Istanbul we want to do another course with them. :)

I visited Turkish arts almost a month ago and still think back at how great my experience was. I visited with my mum and sister and we all loved it. We were in awe of Betul and Ali's skills and passion for their work. They taught us about the skill, knowledge and precision required and also enlightened us of the history behind the technique.
It was such a beautiful and tranquil afternoon and I cannot wait to visit again.

10/10 experience and really recommend to everyone of all ages!

Wow! What an incredible afternoon. Learning marbling was definitely a highlight of our trip. Betul and her husband are so amazingly kind and gracious, especially to our two children. We came expecting to make one or two types of marbled paper and ended up with many many more -- a tree, a tulip, a starry galaxy, and so so many more. The creation process was really meditative and like no other form of art I've ever tried -- fluid and just magical how the pattern on the surface of the water becomes so vibrant and vivid on the paper. They took so much pride in sharing a traditional art form with us, down to the brushes made of horsehair and natural pigments in the paint. Thank you for making this such a fantastic experience.

We had a fantastic session learning paper marbling. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! I will treasure the handmade pieces from this workshop. No souvenir bought at the Grand Bazaar can match that! We also bought some lovely tiles - and again we were looked after with great patience and service… shipping to the UK no problem .. all superbly organised by this amazing team! For anyone visiting Istanbul - we would highly recommend visiting this little gem of an art school right next to Topkapi. Astrid and Michael

One of the highlights of our Istambul trip. Betul was a great teach, very attentive and with a very kind nature. My 11 year old daughter and 13 year old son took to her immediately and created beautiful pieces with her guidance. No previous experience necesary. Highly recommend.

I spent many hours with Betül and Ali enjoying their special hospitality in the studio. I did classes in Turkish tile painting, ebru printing and old Turkish calligraphy. I enjoyed every class and came away with special souvenirs for my family and friends that I made myself. I developed a special interest for these arts and I plan to continue learning and practicing the calligraphy at home. I would recommend to anyone to do at least one or two of the classes offered to enrich your understanding of what the beautiful city of Istanbul has to offer visitors.

incredible 4 hours spent with Ali learning the craft of Turkish Marble painting. Great experience for beginners or expert artists. The class, beautiful studio and end product are fantastic- But the best part are the staff. Ali and his team went ABOVE and BEYOND- Teaching us all about the Turkish culture, the historic sites and just overall beautiful outlook on life. Lovely people inside and out.

4 hours painting, guided tour to the Bazaar and carpet shopping.

We miss Ali and Betul already!!!!
XOXO Chloe and Martin

My husband knows how much I like to craft, so when we were planning our trip to Istanbul, he did a search to see what might be available. Betul's information popped up and the reviews were great so he got in touch with her and then gave me her info so we could figure things out. I went onto both Trip advisor and her website and was blown away. First question was how long does it take to do a tile as I knew it had to be fired. We were there for 5 days so it worked out...big relief. Then what exactly did I want to make as there was SO much choice! I narrowed it down and sent her a WhatsApp text to see if this would work. Betul is fabulous at getting back to you as soon as she can...we are in Mountain time zone and she is 9 hours ahead. I also wanted to get a henna done and she said no problem. We worked it all out as we wanted to experience a Hammam (Turkish Baths) and I knew it couldn't be on the day I was doing the tile.

Betul gave me her address but our cab drive had a little bit of a problem finding it as the old town has a massive amount of winding streets. Her cute shop is literally just down the street from Hagia Sofia, along the wall. We got there a bit early as we had no clue how long it would take from where we were staying. It was no problem and we were welcomed in. We were shown around the shop on several floors as not only does she teach tile classes, but also paper marbling, felting and more. Plus lots of great items to buy as souvenirs. My husband had a great time shopping while we started my tile class. We went through a number of design options and figured out what would work and what colors I was going to use. Betul created the design with a handmade stencil and charcoal and the magic started to happen. She showed me how to use the paintbrush and grab just enough color. Thankfully she had a little tile to experiment on...it's been about 20 years since I've picked up a paintbrush. Then she taught me how to float the color onto the tile...and keep layering the color on. Betul is a VERY patient person. We had a great time getting to know each other...loved having a private class! 2 hours flew by. Her sweet husband was visiting with my husband and they hit if off. We had such a great time there.

We came back 3 days later for my henna and to pick up my tile. It turned out even more gorgeous than I had hoped! Betul did a wonderful job on my henna. She had a lot of idea's to choose from but I had found one I loved online and had screenshot. She worked off that image. I was amazed how quickly she was able to lay down the design. The ink smelled like lavender. She told me it would take awhile to get the pigment into my skin and then it would dry and brush off...but not to be alarmed as it goes to an orange color the first day. I'm so glad she said that or I would probably have freaked out. I read online that you should cover it with Vaseline when you are showering so it repels the water. I actually made sure that I used Vaseline 2x a day and so far it has lasted a week and still looks incredible.

I would 100% say you need to do a workshop of some kind with Betul. She is incredibly patient and wants you to take something home that will remind you of Turkey and be proud of it. I have nothing but thanks and admiration for the time we spent with together. She deserves all those 5 Star Reviews!
