Gorilla Trek Africa helped to fulfill a dream of ours. Hiking in Bwindi and visiting the gorillas was an experience that we will never forget. We hiked for approximately 90 minutes and we were very fortunate to come across a troop of eight, including a silverback. We sat with them for an hour and it was incredible.
I would wholeheartedly recommend using Gorilla Trek Africa to help you with this experience. Nelson was very professional and prompt with following up during the booking process.
Our guide was Krish who met us at Kisoro airport and made sure that we had everything we needed during the three days. Krish was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. He was very punctual. I would highly recommend asking for Krish.
Gorilla Trek booked excellent accommodations and everything worked seamlessly. A great experience.

My daughter and I had a great experience in December 2024. We were picked up from our hotel and drove to Akagera National Park for a couple days. We did a safari and a fabulous boat ride. From there, we drove to the other side of the country for our gorilla trek. It was amazing. Our amazing representative - Nelson - was with us for the entire four days. He led our safari and made sure we got everywhere on time. He is very knowledgeable about Rwanda and the community. He advised us on eating and tipping! He was a great driver through the mountains on some pretty narrow and winding roads. Nelson also was flexible when we had him take us to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund - Ellen Degeneres campus. He also recommended the Kigali Genocide Museum and took us there to learn more about the history of this country. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend using Gorilla Trek Africa!
We did a 4 day chimpanzee and gorilla trek tour in Uganda and it was incredible!
Nelson was super helpful and incredible patient with all my many questions and requests throughout the booking process and provided very quick and detailed responses. This gave us a great deal of confidence that we were booking with a top tour company who would ensure we had an unforgettable trip.
Once our trip started, the amazing experiences we had seeing Gorillas and Chimpanzee we had were made all the better by our awesome driver/guide Elvis. He made sure our long drives between destinations were as smooth as possible, punctuated by his knowledge on all things Uganda (from wildlife to people, language, economy and, of course, tea!). Just a great guide!
Additionally, the accommodations provided as part of the trip were stunning, with incredible food!
If you’re thinking of doing gorilla trekking in Uganda (or Rwanda) then use this tour company - you won’t be disappointed.

I was going to Rwanda for a workshop and happened to stay in Musanze, just a short drive from the Volcano National Park. Only about a week before traveling I asked Nelson from the office if he could organise a 2-day trip, fetching me from my hotel and bringing me back to the airport in Kigali. Gavis (my driver/guide) did so. I went to both the Gorillas and the Golden Monkeys and the experience was great. Since I had time to spare on the Sunday, Gavis last minute organised for me to go to the Belgian genocide memorial and museum for the Campaign against genocide on the day. What a great service!

We contracted with Gorilla Trek Africa, a African-based travel company based in Kampala with an office in Kigali Africa. Our gorilla Trek in Rwanda was from Oct 12-14, 2024. We (my wife and I) were picked up at our Kigali Hotel at 9am by our Rwandan guide in a land Rover and driven directly to our hotel near the Volcano Mountains. He dropped us off at noon or 1 PM and then disappeared. No suggestions what to do for the next five hours. Had we know of this "down-time," we could have easily spent 3-4 hours touring Kigali, including the Genocide Museum. This was never suggested. It seemed he wanted to "off-load" us as quickly as possible and spend his free time on his own.
The next morning he picked us up at 6:30 am to go on the gorilla trek. Neither he nor the company gave us much information on the Trek. Particularly, how much to tip the guide, the bearers, the gorilla finders, etc. Once again, he dropped us off at our hotel at around noon and offered no suggestions on what to do for the next five hours. Fortunately, we learned that the Jane Goodall Museum was a half mile walk down the road and that an outstanding women's cooperative was across the street from the museum.
The next day was our travel back to Kigali I to catch a evening flight home. We decided to forgo our Trek to see the golden monkeys and rather tour Kigali, markets, museums, etc.
Granted our guide was very knowledgeable about Rwanda, he seemed not to really care about us having a complete experience. One minor issue. He never offered to assist my 70 year old wife up into the land Rover. Never opened her door.

I did the 2-day gorilla trekking tour and had an absolute blast! I really enjoyed hanging out with the gorillas. At the park entrance, I was assigned a group and a gorilla family that I'll be visiting that day. After hiking for about an hour through the beautiful Rwandan countryside and some thick forest, we reached a spot where the gorilla family was hanging out. It was just fascinating to watch them go about their day (sleeping, playing, eating). I will remember the 1 hour I spent with the Kwitonde gorilla family for the rest of my life.
Rwanda is just a beautiful country, and Gavis was an excellent guide. He helped make sure that the lodge was ready to receive us when we arrived, and even helped arrange a shower at the lodge after my time with the gorillas even though it was past the checkout time. He offered to stop for pictures when we passed by locations with a good view. I was a solo traveler, and had a great time talking to Gavis about various topics on our drive to and from the Volcanoes National Park. I learned so much about Rwanda and his life in the tourism industry. He's a fun guide to have on long trips!
I would highly recommend the gorilla trek and Gavis as a guide to anyone who wants to experience hanging out with gorillas in their natural habitat!

Thank you to Gorilla Trek for an amazing 5-day tour to Akagera National Park and Volcanos National Park in Rwanda! Our itinerary was coordinated by Nelson, who was quite responsive and helped to customize to our needs. Our guide, Elvis, was friendly, knowledgable, funny, and passionate. We saw the "Big 5" in Akagera (although viewing the rhinos and leopard was from a long distance), and had close viewing of giraffes, elephants, hippos, zebras, and lions. In Volcanos National Park, we trekked to the Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys. Both experiences were remarkable. We will always remember this special tour and the beauty of Rwanda. Gorilla Trek is an African-based company and we are so glad we worked with them. Special thanks to Elvis!

This was once in a lifetime experience. We fell in love with Rwanda - its people, their way of life, their work ethic, their commitment to unity and progress, the children and obviously its national parks (Akagera and Volcano National park are a must). Nelson was absolutely the best guide. He made sure we had the best Safari experience and got to see all Big 5 ( except leopards) in truly their natural environment, not a game reserve. The Gorilla Trek is unforgettable. Highly recommend Nelson and Rwanda as your destination.

This is a bucket list experience. There are around 1000 gorillas left in the wild and if you visit Rwanda this is a must do activity.

Hi- I’ll be doing a 5 day gorilla/chimp/golden monkey trek in February in Rwanda. I’m wondering what kind of hiking shoes/boots are appropriate? I have waterproof hiking sneakers, but they are not boots. They are comfortable and would like to bring those, but I’m wondering if I need more ankle support? I read that we should tuck are pants into our socks. What are the best socks for this time of year? Thanks, I appreciate any recommendations!

We wore insect shield socks and waterproof hiking shoes (with ankle support) and we were extremely comfortable

Hi- Any concerns around safety (terrorism/kidnappings, etc.) in Uganda while on these excursions? I see that Uganda is on the not-recommended list for US travelers. Thanks for any input/feedback about this!

I had no security concerns in Uganda, especially the western area where this tour goes. The places we stayed, transport and border crossing were smooth, clean and safe. I agree Rwanda is probably safer but this part of Uganda is also ok.

I just turned 66 years old. I am mobile but not terribly athletic. Will this trek be doable for someone like me?
Thank you

Hi which company would you recommend doing a Gorilla trek with in Rwanda? And is there anyone that had this included as part of their Tanzania safari?
Yazıldığı tarih: 5 Mart 2020
Hi, we used Gorilla Trek Africa but now that I am reading they picked others up at the airport, they refused to do the same for us and the lodges were not luxury. They did show up and all and if you are smarter than us, you will not feel like you were taken advantage of as others seem to have a great experience. As for Tanzania, we used ClimbKili since we also climbed Kilimanjaro - nothing but good things to say about this company. If you are doing both areas and have some time constraints, I would do all my game drives/safaris in Tanzania. Each company you use should be able to arrange pick up drop off at the approproiate airports.

Sudan chairs treking gorillas in Rwanda.
Do they slow down the pace of other hikers? Is rate still $400usd. Can you hire if not "disabled " just not up to such an intense hike because of physical challenges?????
Thanks for any help.

I just did the Rwanda as well as the Uganda gorilla trek in June 2019. It really depends what group they put you in. Our Rwanda trek was relatively easy and our Uganda trek was quite difficult. The Rwanda trek permit cost is $1500 pp and Uganda’s is $600 pp. Rwanda raised their price in 2017. I loved both experiences. I’m sure they will work with you but it really depends where the gorillas are that morning that will determine the different treks for the day.

We want to go to bwindi in Uganda for trek...permits are $600 vs. $1500 in Rwanda. Can we get a tour out of Kigali for such?
Yazıldığı tarih: 2 Ocak 2020
Yes you can. In fact, we flew into Kigali, had a guide pick us up at the airport, and drove across the border to Uganda. It's probably a 3 hour drive, including spending some at border control (we arranged for Uganda visas in advance. Not sure how long it takes if you apply on the spot).

Past visitors: we have not decided yet between Uganda and Rwanda for seeing gorillas. What I’m curious on is how many people are doing two days of trekking for $3000 person? Since permits are $1500 per day in Rwanda and I’ve been told to book two days to be sure I see gorillas that is a hefty price. I understand it goes to a good cause and to see my dream come true but wanted to hear from other travelers on how many permit days they bought. We are going to Kenya mostly and this is a side trip so we have to mindful financially. Thanks for any advice.

Hi, Fellow travelers, I have just returned from an extensive trip to Africa the highlight for me was the Mountain Gorillas,
I flew into Kigali Rwanda and was met by my guide who drove me to the foothills of the mountains were the Gorillas reside,
My recommendation would be to take this route as the lodges in Rwanda are very comfortable you then have about a 20 min drive the next day to the rangers station and meeting point for a briefing
after this you drive 20 min to the stone wall that circles the 3 countries Rwanda, Uganda, and DRC, from here with the trackers you climb to 3000 to 3500 meters above sea level and find the Gorillas and spend one hour with them, YOU ONLY NEED THE ONE DAY unless you want to go back the next day and repete the process, any other question please ask, Regards Graeme Sydney Australia,

I went at the end of April 2019 and booked mid Dec. 2018. I would recommend booking at least 4 months out in order to ensure that Gorilla permits are still available for the of your visit. Gorilla Trek Africa was awesome to work with. If you email them directly Nelson can probably give you better in sight.

Hi,
Has anyone booked their Gorilla Trekking permit for Rwanda themselves, and if so what website they went through.
Many thanks in advance

Just back from Uganda and Rwanda, in and out of Kigale I too used Gorilla Trek Africa for 10 day trip. Nelson was so helpful in arranging what I wanted to do. I also highly recommend going to Kibale national park to see Chimpanzees that are also hibituated to tourists. There are a total of nine different primates there, some nocturnal. You need permit for this also.
