Although it’s a new built museum building it’s sited where exactly the old station would of been in Morphu.
Historically this brings back the “what was here several years ago “until closure on the 31/121951.
Information inside the new building showing the route maps and several artifices and photos,
Note it’s just newly completed on our visit August 2022.
Opening times are a bit erratic at the moment but with more publicity from the Turkish tourist board hopefully it becomes a attraction just for the historic value it represents.
There is a steam locomotive outside the building that was donated to the town several years ago this been recently moved from the town park to here.
She’s in rather poor condition after years of stood in the open… hopefully at some point it will be restored to its former glory.
Just a note although the Cyprus Government Railway carried freight iron ore , this locomotive is of the Cyprus Mining Cooperation but it’s the thought behind that counts.
The original locomotive left stands at Farmagusta of the Government Railway.
Hopefully the museum will flourish and get visitors more so from the ex pats who was stationed over in Northern Cyprus and either worked or had a hand on the mining corporation.
Extra note it’s not yet sign posted to here can be a bit tricky to find, best coming in from the main road Nicosia then follow the town centre signs it’s off a small dual carriageway just before you see the station museum there is a large blue public over-bridge spanning the road.
