I am really pleased I booked the Battlefield Tours. I learnt so much, and for all the reading you can do, nothing beats being there and seeing the actual lay of the land....it helps you to understand why the war waged back and forth as it did. (Not that anyone can understand war). Lisa was so informative, knew all the battles, battlefields, and dates and relevant history of each area and kept me enthralled for 2 days. I actually wish I had incorporated Ypres into the tour as well. Lisa collected me each day from my motel and was also easy to talk to about other subjects and history besides the WW1 sites. This is so worth doing. It is emotional and heartbreaking and gut wrenching....and so worth doing. (I might add that doing it in August was terrific because not as many tourists were around...it is the quiet month). Thank you Cobbers Battlefield Tours.

With a family member laid to rest at Villers-Bretonneaux, we were anxious to learn something of the northern battlefields of France and visit his grave. Colin was an excellent guide. He gave us an extensive overview of the Aussie digger in that part of France during WWI and we visited several battlefields. This included Le Hamel, as we had asked for our tour to include the site where our great-uncle was killed.
At Villers we were able to visit his grave and Colin was on hand to explain details we would never have discovered on our own. It was a deeply moving day.

We had an amazing day today with Lisa remembering and reflecting on the Australian involvement in World War 1. Lisa delivered a moving and memorable experience as we trod in the footsteps of those who fought so gallantly to give us the life we have today in Australia. Lisa was professional, personable, knowledgeable and relational. If you want to do a tour of the battlefields, then Cobbers Australian Battlefield Tours

We decided on the one day tour because we intended to do a lot of the Australian battle field sites on our own. We would never have found some of the little off the beaten track locations Lisa took us to or the insightful history about people who sacrificed so much in this tragic episode.
We have no doubt we would have wasted our time attempting to do this on our own.
If you are coming to the battlefield area do your self a favour and tap into the twenty plus years of knowledge "Cobbers" has amassed.

We found Colin to be incredibly informative: his knowledge of the times, places and details of the battles in this area was astounding. On the first day, another Australian couple were with us and Colin was able to show them the actual sites where the other mans' great uncle fought. As we had no names or dates of relatives involved in the Great War, Colin took us, on the second day, to other sites of interest including the Tunnels Of Arras, which were dug by New Zealand Tunnellers to give closer access to the Front Line.
Colin was a truly excellent Guide and for us, just being in the whole area, hearing about the fluidity of The Front over so many years and the thousands lost and missing, brought home to us, the senseless reality of it all.
We highly recommend Colin Gillard's Cobbers Battlefield Tours.

Chris from Cobbers Battlefield Tours, collected me from my hotel and helped me find the WW1 grave of my great uncle. This wonderful service is exactly what you need if you are seeking a personal experience, tailored to your needs. Chris's local knowledge and experience in Battlefield Tours made my visit very special.

My wife and I have just concluded a 3 day Battlefield Tour with Cobbers. We were led by tour Manager Colin Gillard, one of the principals of the company.
We were met on time on the first day of the tour and were immediately impressed. Colin sat down with us, discussed our interests and adjusted the tour content for the first day to more closely match our interests. The hotel, included in the tour, was excellent, a central 18th century hotel, quirky but very comfortable and fitting the experience we were to have.
Our transport was a modern, very comfortable mini van for the three days, plenty of space as you could imagine, with only two passengers.
Throughout our three days, we got very detailed commentary between each site and at the sites themselves. Colin's personal knowledge and anecdotes were really appreciated.
The days were clearly planned and explained to us at the start of each day. Each day had a theme or period of the Great War.
The itinerary was extensive but not that rushed, whilst we realised we couldn't see everything, Colin made sure we saw the 'must sees'.
Some highlights included the Wellington Tunnel in Arras, something we hadn't heard of before but very important. The tunnelling done by kiwi Miners, hence the name was special for my kiwi wife. The Villers-Bretonneux school visit for the Franco- Australian Museum and the main VB memorial and cemetery.
When we traced the key battles, we were amazed at the number we had covered in the three days. For us, 3 days was just right, physically and emotionally, we would now like to come back and focus on some special pieces.
We highly recommend Colin and his company for their extremely high quality preparation and execution.

Knowledgeable guides, a comfortable bus & some of the most moving places in Australian history. We visited just about all the important places from Amiens to Peronne & the main memorial at Villers Bretonneaux

Colin picked up us each day from our accommodation at the Best Western Hotel a few minutes from Amiens Station which was so convenient. We did a three day tour with him although the first day was with Lisa. We had a great day with Lisa and she was very knowledgeable about the sites we visited and she found my great great uncle's resting place, a very moving experience. Colin was our guide for the next couple of days and he took us around to many sites imparting his vast knowledge on each one. My husband and I had a fantastic three day tour and we would highly recommend a tour with him, he is passionate about telling the detailed history of the battles on the Western Front and we learn't so much of what our forefathers and those of other nations went through.
Thank you Colin and Lisa.

Colin is full of knowledge of all the major battles and battlefields from many years of gathering knowledge - particularly regarding the Australian involvement. I was following my father's involvement and Colin did his best to help me connect the dots. Located the Railway cutting where D Coy 35th Bn gathered to launch counter attack April 4th 1918.

I read a review about an Australian tour guide who also has a B&B. I am hard at hearing and would like to book a tour with this man as I won't have as much trouble understanding him. I can find the review with his details so I was wondering if anyone could help. Thanks Kim.

We used Cobbers Battlefied Tours last September but I am not aware of them having a B and B. However they did the hotel booking for us at the Hotel Grand Universe in Amiens. The hotel was included in the cost of the tour and did have breakfast included. There were several restaurants within walking distance as well as a convenience store. The hotel was also very close to the train station (we walked), and Colin the tour director picked us up at the hotel each morning. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would recommend to anyone interested in battlefield tours

Hi I am travelling with my wife and daughter. we are trying to find a tour package where we don't have to purchase an additional room at the overnight stays. Does this tour enable the use of a roll away at the hotels?

Cobbers Battlefield Tours made all the hotel bookings for us and it was as previously advised the L'Univers' situated within walking distance to the train station and within a mall with plenty of shopping and restaurants and bars. Very old but charming, clean and comfortable - highly recommended.

Can you choose which cemetery you want to see? I am interested in Le Grand Hasard Military Cemetery at Morbecque.
