This is a really fascinating place even if you no interest in cannons or weapons. It should be especially fascinating for anyone from Norway. It is an enormous place and worth spending some time exploring b

This is an incredibly fascinating museum about Norwegian history in WWII. The short film with English subtitles was interesting and a good introduction. The information given at the visitor center was helpful and you could get information in English. Walking around the cannon and the rest of the site was really interesting.

Excellent example of German intact both artillery gun (one of the biggest globally!), and the opportunity to visit the German bunker which housed the sleeping quarters, logistics, loading mechanism, and writing still on the wall (just re-confirmed), with leftover immaculate equipment ie guns, helmets, uniforms, manuals, etc

A recommendation if you are in Kristiansand and love war history. You will receive a map and a sheet of descriptions and explanations of different parts of the museum. We ⁇ this, instead of having a lot of information on the walls. Incredibly cool to see:)

I visited this museum on a cruise tour and was so glad I did. It's an intriguing relic from World War II, with all the original items still in place - machinery, shells, even an old oven in the bunker underneath.
The gun itself is a monster. A skinny person could almost fit inside the barrel. It's hard to believe such a thing was constructed to terrorize others. It's important to never forget.
The museum has a little coffee shop selling ice cream and souvenirs and there is a toilet too. A small side room loops an interesting video showing more details of the gun.

A beautiful place from which you can even see the fjord.
Military history is certainly not necessarily interesting for everyone, but a visit is worthwhile just because of the really powerful cannon that is on display there and children have fun there too.
The entire area is also recommended for a walk if you are travelling without a tour group.

I advise you to combine this visit with the Hop-on Hop-off bus if you are not by car... otherwise, there is a walk between the bus stop (normal) and the entrance... and it goes uphill !
Very interesting visit to this part of history.

We went here as part of a tour offered by princess cruises for our port call.
The guide we had was informative, and the signs were written in a number of languages, however, i am not sure if the experience would have been quite so complete had we self guided on our visit. there was some really interesting things to see and they had clearly maintained the old gun batteries etc, however i would say that if your mobility is not great, this attraction would likley be a little less rewarding and limited in your accessibility.
The area around the battery's is very "Norway" with lots of lovely views of the water and much greenery.
there are toilets and a small gift shop that also sells a limited selection of drinks (they have a small coffee machine"
If you like your history this is a good way to burn and hour or so soaking up some ww2 atmosphere! However, might struggle to entertain smaller children here - one to bare in mind.

Got the M1 bus from near our cruise ship up to kroodden bus stop and walked a short 5 min walk up a gentle hill to the museum. If you like WW2 history this is a must visit if you are in the area. Very interesting to see the huge canon and old German station and all open and accessible.
Great views over the area as well.

I hadn’t properly researched this tour from our cruise ship so I was very pleasantly surprised when I found this was an old German WW2 bunker which still had one of the cannons and many of the original features. It was a short 20 mins drive from Copenhagen port. You visit the bunker and can touch the cannon (apparently the second largest in the world) , the shells and other items from gang time. It’s all original and has been very well maintained. In one display is some machine guns, German signs and insignia and other items. In another was the original officers ready room complete with a poster of the German leader of that time. It was unbelievable to see all of this. I couldn’t recommend it more!! And the views are fantastic too

Is it suitable for people with slight walking difficulty? Is it steep and necessitate any climbing?
Yazıldığı tarih: 25 Mayıs 2019
Hi Eileen, there is a hill going up to the museum, it is noe very steep, but and if you have enough time, you should be able to manage. From the bunker to the canon itself, there are stairs.

What is the adult price of the M1 bus? How often does it run from and to the cruise ship?
Do you know how much a cab ride would be from the cruise ship port to the museum? Also, would we be able to find a cab outside the museum to return?
My husband really wants to visit this, but I do not want to miss our ship if we come after lunch.
Thank you!
