Laughing lemon offers cookig classes which can be booked by individuals or groups, in English and German. They have a vareiety of themes on offer from cooking with potatos (the famous Swiss Rösti from scratch!) through making fresh pasta to dumplings. First, you learn how to prepare the dishes, then you have an opulent dinner. I am always amazed by Jack's expertise about and love for food, and the classes are just fun. We also did our team event, there, which was much more fun than just going someplace to eat, and not more expensive.
I do not quite understand what the previous rating on Tripadvisor refers to, as the Laughing Lemon is no restaurant.

My boyfriend and I had been searching for a fun cooking class in Switzerland for sometime when we realized Romandie, where we live, did not offer anything in English. I started to expand my search to the rest of Switzerland and found this place in Zurich. The courses sounded fun and they had Saturday classes. We booked the Flavors of Sicily course and train tickets (we bought really cheap Super Saver tickets) and off we went. It was highly worth the 2.5 hour journey each way. Jack and his wife Silvia are entertaining, knowledgeable and very kind people. You feel like you have known them for years after such a short time. They are very welcoming and the whole experience was just lovely. We made a whole slew of items...appetizers, main courses, desserts and even enjoyed some wine paired with our dishes (and expertly explained by Silvia). We made at least 5 full dishes and even had a Sicilian chocolate tasting at the end. Jack is a trained chef and Silvia and wine professional so they are both experts in their field and they are able to make this a very enjoyable day while learning lots of new things. The course was around 6+ hours and the time went so fast as we prepared each dish. It was very hands on and we all participated in the making (and eating of each dish). They even made accommodations for my gluten-free boyfriend. After all the cooking, we all sat down to enjoy the meal with some wine. The website outlines what you will make in each class which I appreciated so I could look them up in advance. All the products we cooked with were fresh and from farmers markets, fish shops, butchers, etc. We even cooked with their homemade balsamic vinegar!!! There was nothing commercial about the day. If you ever have the chance to make it to one of their classes, I highly recommend it! We hope to return soon for another course...

Die Karte ist etwas mehr versprechend als was dann auf dem Teller landet. Insgesamt völlig OK aber nicht spitze, eher besserer Durchschnitt was die asiatische Küche anbelangt.

Thanks fore adding this review, but I think you made an error in what you are reviewing. We are not a restaurant, but rather offer courses in cooking and wine. Your review seems to indicate you were visiting us recently...are you sure? If this is not an error, could you kindly let us know which course you attended and perhaps some more detail?

We have taken a few classes with LL and each and every one has been a riot. Both J&S are incredibly knowledgeable but also warm and welcoming and really make you feel like friends as opposed to clients. I would recommend their courses to anyone who is looking to learn some great cooking tips, wine tips, or just meet new people in general.

I was brought along to Laughing Lemon by my girlfriend as a surprise, so I had no idea what to expect. However I was treated to a day of bread baking by the excellent Jack and Sylvia who made everyone feel welcome and at ease. We made 7 different types of bread and it was made to feel like less of a course and more like a social gathering.
For anybody who feels a bit inhibited about signing up for a cooking course, I would strongly recommend this place, not only do you learn a lot, but get to sample some excellent food and drink, whilst making new friends.

Is not only cooking or eating, is a journey in culinary tasting, cooking, eating a discovering new tastes, new recipes, new foods and wines (and spirits too).
Is a great experience if you wish to discover something new as food or rediscover simply everyday recipes. Even better with the tasting course you can discovers new wines, chocolates and spirits.
Highly recommended!

Laughing Lemon offers great English-language cooking and wine classes on a really broad variety of areas, ranging from Italian cookies to sushi. We took a Moroccan feast course and learned to make a truly delicious selection of Moroccan classics. Jack and Silvia are wonderful instructors- the course was well-organized and had the right balance of hands-on instruction and demonstration that allowed us to experience the cooking while also allowing us to get through a lot of material in a few hours. Jack is an expert in Moroccan cooking and gave the instruction a personal touch by sharing stories and anecdotes of learning the recipes from his Moroccan mother. The space is bright, cheerful, and well-equipped, but still outfitted with standard household appliances and tools so that you'll be able to recreate the same results in your home kitchen. Jack and Silvia are warm, personable, and fun, making for a friendly and relaxing class atmosphere. We learned lots of techniques and dishes that we otherwise wouldn't even have known existed, and it was lovely to sit down at the beautiful table at the end and tuck into a magnificent multi-course Moroccan meal. It should be noted that although this school is in Switzerland, there isn't a particular emphasis on Swiss cooking or Swiss dishes so if that's what you're looking for, you might not find it here. There is, however, a strong emphasis in their course selection on taking advantage of what is local and seasonal (e.g., the course on cooking with pumpkins) so there is some local flavor to be had. Highly recommended for a fun, delicious, and rewarding afternoon!

It looks like we only have one course which still has space during the time you are here. The course is a wine course on Swiss Wines instead of a cooking course. You can view our schedule on our website (and find out more about the courses currently offered. We can't post website links here, but we should be easy to find if you search for laughinglemon in Zürich.
