I had never had occasion on previous Venetian visits to climb the staircase leading to the first floor of the facade of the hospital of SS. John and Paul, or Scuola Grande di San Marco. It was therefore a nice surprise to first discover a beautiful coffered ceiling and then the book treasures of ancient medicine with first editions of treatises dealing with the great unknown themes of health. Or the first treatise on healthy air dating back as far as 1775 (and unfortunately things have gotten much worse). And then ancient and more modern instruments of medicine, often more like instruments of torture than diagnostic or surgical instruments as we know them today.
Also of great interest, on the sides of the old altar, are the paintings by Domenico Tintoretto and the library in which copies of three paintings by Giovanni Bellini on the life of St. Mark stand out, as the originals, "seized" by Napoleon, on their return to Italy were "seized" one by Brera and two by the Gallerie dell'Accademia. A real shame!

The hospital part was inaccessible on Monday but the look in the entrance was promising.
We visited the pharmacy section with a truly old-fashioned presentation which is a change from the usual sanitized spaces. A very interesting visit but a space reduced to two rooms which makes you regret the entrance fee a little.

An unexpected gem at the entrance of Ospedale Civile on the Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo in the Castello district is this museum with beautiful halls and even a historic pharmacy.
If you walk through the complex you will come to the Ospedale stop of the Vaporetto.

For someone in the Medical profession, this is a must-see! The history of the art and craft of the profession is laid out beautifully. The room with thousands of medical books, instruments for the profession (surgical/medical, dental) is heart stopping (so I guess a hospital is the best place to be for that! LOL). I needed a chin strap to keep my mouth closed, just looking at the art, the ceiling, the place as a whole. Be sure to go to the Museum's Specimen and Pharmacy, just next door, to complete your visit.

I ran past, heading to the vaporetto stop on Murano-Burano, and was frozen by the stunning beauty of the building. Lots of details, airy white marble. I read the sign that this is one of the Scuola, Scuola San Marco. I walked in and was surprised - there were signs to the hospital’s emergency rooms, and grandparents were scurrying around, just like ours. But I decided to climb the stairs. I looked in - a beautiful golden ceiling. I decided to limit myself to this; that day I had islands on my program. I looked at the photo later and didn’t regret not going. It is enough to look around from the outside. Venitians are lucky to visit doctors in such a building!

Don’t waste your money. The Bellini paintings are not here only pour reproduction prints; the originals are at the gallerie della academy under restoration The 5 euro entry not worth the price nothing else worthwhile to see. Skip the scuola and head to the church of Lazarus located behind the building on the canal; it’s free and houses a lovely Tintoretto and Veronese.

Like all the 'Sciole' in Venice, this one is great. It is located in the context of a hospital and in fact in the main room there is a museum of medicine and medical instruments. The two rooms are a spectacle for the eyes. It's really worth a visit.

On July 6, 2023, I was visiting the city of Venice with my family, consisting of my partner and two children, and during the morning when we crossed the canal and arrived at the square, we found this majestic building, now one of the hospitals in Venice. Venice. I entered the entrance of the building with the interest of being able to visit it but the security guard received me in a very bad manner with ugly gestures, insults, verbal attacks and even attempts at physical aggression, in front of my family. He even wished me death and told me that he would have hit me if I had not been accompanied by my family. Unfortunately I felt immense fear and quickly got as far away as I could from both my family and myself. It was a regrettable episode during my visit with the man guarding the entrance to this hospital.

Many large Tintoretto paintings on two floors of an ancient scuola or headquarters of a confraternity in Venice. Rather dark but rented a audioguide for $5 that was informative.

La fachada de este edificio es una de las más bellas y majestuosas de la ciudad. Junto a la iglesia de San Juan y San Pablo, ofrecen una monumentalidad inigualable a la plaza, que es uno de los rincones más hermosos de la ciudad.
Volviendo a la fachada del edificio, destacar que es la puerta del hospital y que da acceso también a la sala de la scuola. Tiene un horario complicado y hoy en día ya no alberga las grandes obras de arte de Tintoretto que fueron hechas para esta gran sala.

I think it was 5 euro and when you enter the building,go up the stairs directly to your right to access the exhibit.

Non ricordo... mi sembra circa 10 Euro per persona... comunque sempre troppo poco, tenuto conto degli altissimi costi di manutenzione dei siti museali italiani.
