We stayed at the Gritti Palace in February 2025 and The Epicurean Experience is one of the best trip excursions we’ve ever taken. Chef Franco Sanno incorporated the elements of three experiences in one; a chef’s table, a walking tour of Venice, and one of the best meals we enjoyed during our time in Italy. The menu for lunch was determined by the quality and freshness of items he discovered in the local market. On our stroll to and from the Rialto Market area, we were able to enjoy some of the sights and sounds of Venice, away from many of the touristy sections. He pointed out some of the local spots, included some interesting history of Venice, and led us to an outstanding cicchetti bar for snacks and drinks. Once we were back in the kitchen, we assisted in the preparation of the meal and had a front row seat to see and experience how a great meal comes together. We enjoyed the fruits of our labor with an excellent wine pairing. The few hours spent with Chef Franco is something we look forward to repeating on our next trip to Venice.

The entire experience was first class! Chef Franco is a master of his craft and we were fortunate to have him as an amazing guide for the day as well. He took our group to the market where we got to watch and learn how he came up with our menu based on the freshness and quality of what was freshly caught that morning! On our way back to the Giritti Palace, we had an opportunity to stop at a small cichetti bar where we had the opportunity to spend some time together as a group and get to know each other. One we were back in the kitchen, it was a real thrill to be made a part of the process while we assisted Chef in making our lunch. When lunch was served it was paired with amazing wines by the Gritti Sommelier and we all conversed and laughed throughout the entire experience. It’s one of those experiences you hope never ends and you are sad when it does. Truly unique and a must if you’re lucky enough to have the chance.

I celebrated my birthday with a cooking class at the epicurean school of the Gritti Palace. Everything was fantastic and well organized with many lovely surprises along the way. We really had the most wonderful day! Chef Franco took us to the Rialto Market where he came up with the three course menu that we were going to make for lunch, only buying the best produce and teaching us little tricks here and there of how to find the freshest products. Then we went to a traditional Venetian bacaro where we had a little aperitivo with cicchetti. And then it was time to return to the Gritti to start cooking.
It was so lovely to see how Franco made the most delicious recipes with just very simple ingredients. He has a very relaxed and elegant approach to cooking and it was amazing to learn from him. We tried to remember all the little tricks he taught us. But luckily he also sent an email to us afterwards with the recipes of the dishes we made, so we can recreate them at home. The lunch was utterly delicious, so full of taste. Every bite was pure enjoyment!
And that in the most beautiful setting of the kitchen of the Gritti covered with copper pans and cooking books. We had a wonderful time and lovely conversations with Franco about the meaning of cooking.
The cherry on top was the birthday cake they made for me, which they brought in when at the end of our lunch. It was so thoughtful and delicious. A perfect experience and the best way to spend my 20th birthday. I will remember it forever!

Thank you Chef Franco for a unique and memorable experience!! We all enjoyed the cooking school, meeting new friends and having such a wonderful and relaxed lunch paired with some great wine. We hope to come back soon and do it again! Salute!!

Outstanding experience! We had a short course but very memorable! Cooking in stylish Italian kitchen with smiling and patient Chef Franco - the best mix ever! Highly recommend for everyone! Hope to come back for longer classes. Thank you Franco!

The Gritti Epicurean School cooking class was very memorable for me. First is because when you peek out the window you see the gondolas passing by and remember that you are in the breathtaking Venice. Secondly, Chef Franco Sanna was a very engaging teacher. We learned so many techniques, and these small changes in the cooking process elevate your pasta dish from good to excellent. I have never made fresh pasta before. Because of this experience I plan to buy a fresh pasta maker in Dubai.

It was amazing experience! Wonderful kitchen in beautiful hotel - just wow! Chef Franco is such a kind person and he created delicious pasta! I will back soon to cook together again :) Kasia

We had a delightful morning starting with a very warm welcome from the food and beverage staff who invited us to enjoy a coffee prior to the class commencing.
We were met promptly by the very charming Franco our chef/teacher/host and escorted into the kitchen whereupon our party enjoyed a lively cooking lesson and demonstration prior to a delicious lunch.
The sommelier Sandro paired some magnificent wines with our meal, and the event manager Frederica ensured that everything worked seamlessly,
All in all the day exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend to hose who enjoy an elevated and interactive food and wine experience.

My wife and I had the great good fortune to attend a pasta making class with Chef Franco Sanna during our stay at the Gritti in November. We had a little trepidation when we learned that we would be the only students in the class that day, but Franco did not seem to mind and took us in like old friends. He could not have been more friendly, more amiable, or more charming. Most of all, he was a great teacher. We learned so much and laughed so much. Then, eating the meals we had cooked sitting down with Franco and chatting to the Sommelier, Mariana. Mariana is truly marvelous and deserves a 5 star review all her own. In short, we had a tremendous experience and would recommend it to everyone.
