Stopped here for tea and cake halfway through a brilliant walking tour of Bath's Bridgerton filming locations that I found on voicemap. Felt like I was having tea at Lady Danbury's house! Wonderful

Can’t understand the last two negative reviews. I thought the Holburne EXCELLENT and it far exceeded my expectations. I came from SW London for the Henry Moore miniatures exhibition but probably enjoyed the Mr Doodle one more and the permanent displays are also outstanding. The cafe was good too. If I lived nearer, I am sure I would have annual membership and the Sydney Gardens are also a nice place to stroll round afterwards.
Just be careful if you are hoping to park your car at the museum. The car park is small and you might have to find an alternative which I imagine in Bath could be difficult

Travelled from Devon to see the Henry Moore in Miniature exhibition. The Moore pieces were fantastic, however the displaying of this exhibition was disappointing.. The information was brief, the pieces were arranged from right to left but the titles of the art woks were labelled left to right. This was a problem for some of the cases, although not all. This inattention to detail lacked the professionalism we expected.
One of the volunteers informed us that we could open the drawers see more exhibits with further information and engage in interesting tasks. This had been missed on many of our previous visits as we hadn't realised that this facility was available, perhaps a notice or some indication in the museum guide or on the map would help to show this hidden extra.

This museum used to be free, now it's £12.50 per person. Yes, £12.50 per person.....
What happened to free museums?
Needless to say we didn't go in, and spent £12 per person on the river cruise which was AMAZING. Don't waste your money here. It's nice on the outside, but from memory when it was free, not much on the inside.

Interesting to see some early small sculptures by Henry Moore. Given that it’s more usual to see his large-scale works of reclining figures outdoors.
A assortment of portraits of notable figures in English life is central to the collections. Henry Walton’s William Brereton with a Portrait of Henry Woodward shows the main character in an elegant drawing room with one arm resting on the mantelpiece.
A dramatic work shows the acclaimed actor David Garrick in the main role in the play Venice Preserv’d. Portraits of families feature well.
European paintings are to be seen including some from the Dutch Golden period.

This is not a particularly important museum, as it does not specialize on anything, but the visit is worthwhile because of the uniqueness of the collection, serendipitous and with a few fakes from the 1800s, which seemed to be common even then

We went for the Henry Moore exhibition and Mr Doodle
- adults and children each got something from both exhibitions.
Hadn't realised had to.pay to see the sculpture exhibits.
The permament collection at the museum is free - small amount of silver wear, ceramics, oil.paintings, trinkets etc. Mostly Georgian - unsuprisingly .
Originally built as a hotel - good views down the main street.
The museum is small and sweet
- the best exhibitions, and the talks, cost extra
So it's as a museum experience it is partially dependent on your budget.
Overall a pleasant afternoon.
Nice activities for children in the craft section.
Not overwhelming in size (if that's a factor).
Good cake.
We tend to stay for an hour or two when there's a new Art exhibition.
Good setting for the summer outdoor theatre events.

Bold move by the museum to feature Mr Doodle. His work placed alongside the standing exhibition is eye opening and cleverly executed. The bespoke rooms are something else!

We live in Bath and go regularly to the permanent and special exhibitions.
We went to see Mr Doodle and Henry Moore
Both we really excellent
Henry Moore - seeing the miniature and maquette versions gave a real opportunity to see a lot of Moore works, and the early works showing his influences were particularly interesting
Mr Doodle - these were a real delight. I particularly enjoyed the small works that were put in place of some of the permanent paintings and which echoed them. There were quite a few children there who evidently enjoyed it

Hi how much is entry please and do carers go in for free ?
Yazıldığı tarih: 16 Temmuz 2020
The Holburne website says to catch a no. 4 bus from station, but this doesn’t correspond with any bus maps I look at. I want to visit in the morning, setting out early, phone lines are now closed and with mobility issues, the bus is a must. I’d be grateful for confirmation of the bus number/ route from the station - if you can help, thank you so much!

Can you visit the coffee shop without paying £12.50 entry fee

It looks as though your question has been answered. We are only ever in Bath from Monday to Friday (never at the weekend)

Hi iis this near the railway station please?
Yazıldığı tarih: 30 Kasım 2016
Quite near - about a mile. Not a difficult walk and there's plenty to see along the way. Or you can take one of the University buses (during term time) from the bus station, near the railway station, as far as St Mary's Church (Bathwick Hill) and then it's only a few more minutes' walk to the museum.
