Beautiful memorial to the RAF bomber crews who served during World War II. Very sober , dignified and with many details , it represents a typical complete crew of bombers. Would have deserved a more central location.
Deserves the glance and respect due to these men.

A very moving experience which was well worth the visit. So very glad we came. Andrew told a moving story about the dam busters operation. You should really stop here.

I saw this monument with my girlfriend during a holiday in London. The metal statue is located inside the garden of Hyde Park Corner, a small park near the subway stop of the same name. The work was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II during the Diamond Jubilee of 2012 and depicts pilots of the state fleet. You can find celebratory flowers and crowns on the marble base.

PROS
* Appropriate subject to honor
* Great statues with phenomenal realistic details
* Enclosed in a hallowed Greek temple like shrine
CONS
* It is in cloe proximity to so many other memorial statues
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... during my explorations around the entrance to Hyde Park. I really liked this one- the subject being remembered and honored was very noble and noteworthy and the detils of the chiseled sculpture- the faces of the airmen and the details (including their boots) were phenomenal. Visiots had placed memorial wreaths. This reminded me of the National Marines Memorial (Iwo Jima) in Arlington Virginia, directly across from DC, and that is the most amazing sculpture memorial that I've ever seen, and there has been a big competition
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It's free
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
For sure
ADVICE
When wandering around looking at the statues and monuments here, be sure to find and visit and honor this hallowed one located within a replica of an open Greek Temple.

This is an impressive memorial and it is situated close to Hyde Park Corner. The statues inside the memorial and the inscriptions are reminders of the sacrifices of the people who served in Bomber Command. A fitting tribute.

This magnificient Portland stone memorial in the modern classical style commemmorates the 55,573 bomber command crew who lost their lives in Word War II. It features seven aircrew - Navigator, Flight Engineer, Mid-Upper Gunner, Pilot, Bomb Aimer, Rear Gunner and Wireless Operator. The statue was unveiled by the Queen during her diamond jubillee year in 2012 and is maintained by the RAF Benevolent Fund. A thought provoking reminder of the sacrifice these young men made for our country.

This site is still quite young and the gardens will be very impressive when they mature more fully. The tributes and memorials have been carefully thought out and crafted and represent a very moving yet peaceful experience. The views over Lincoln and the Cathedral are spectacular and the quality of food served in the Cafe is excellent.

I visited the Bomber Command Memorial during the period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth 2. The memorial, which commemorates the 55,573 Bomber Command service personnel who died during WW2, was decked with flowers with loads of people taking the opportunity to pay their respects to Bomber Command as well as to Queen Elizabeth 2.
This memorial is well worth a visit.

My father was. Lancaster bomber pilot as was his cousin. Dad survived but his cousin didn't. I would like to visit this memorial for the men who served with them both (from all parts of the Commonwealth). Could you tell me exactly where it is. Coming from Australia I don't know London too well.
Also could I place a small tribute to both men (a flag and a poppy) anywhere near the memorial.
Thank you for your help.

Right being an ex Londoner living down under now glad to offer you some directions. Assuming the plane makes it to Heathrow not Gatwick...Heathrow Express train to Padington (TIP deals to be had in advance like serious savings if you book in Oz online). (You can also get Oyster cards for Tube in advance convenient and they mail them to you very quick service). From Paddington you need to take Bakerloo line (BROWN) heading south to Baker Street 3 stops. At Baker St you will change to Jubilee line (Silver Grey colour) heading south to Green Park just 2 stops. From Green Park time to go walkabout cross road to Green Park side start walking abouot 10 minutes its right before Wellington Arch on your left you cannot miss it. Safe travels and good luck. Thank you for your sacrifice! So Green Park best bet and closest with great walk.

Parking facilities?
Yazıldığı tarih: 21 Şubat 2015
The only time I would take a car there is at the weekend - checking beforehand on the tfl website about road closures first. You can park in Mayfair in the evening, not sure about the daytime, car parks will be expensive. Tube to Green Park is the best bet.

Its free and just stands in Green Park. Only the back of the monument is visible from the road, you need to go into the park to see the front. If you get out at Green Park Tube on the Ritz side of Piccadilly, go into Green park at that entrance, turn right and walk in the park parallel to the road towards Hyde Park Corner you will come to it.
