Super sentier avec dénivelé assez extrême mais qui s'accomplit asse facilement en utilisant les échelles et autres support. Superbes points de vue une fois rendu au sommet. À faire.

The Beehive portion of this hike is amazing! My teens (17 & 19) and my husband and I (47 & 48) LOVED it. We got to the Beehive section on a weekday around 11:00 am and it was crowded but not awful. This is a climb, not just a hike. While not one of the highest summits in the area, it has one of the steepest inclines to reach its top.
I am not afraid of heights; I love hiking “strenuous” trails and still my body had a physiological flutter of fear when climbing some of these rungs. It was exhilarating but if you are the least bit afraid of heights I suggest you skip the Beehive portion.
You’re in full sun, so wear SPF. It’s a short but intense trail so we paired it with a few others yet decided that on a hot day Beehive would pair well with a few hours at Sand Beach playing in the water.

Fantastic climb and amazing views on the way! A little scary in a few areas but over all a great climb to the top. Would not try if raining and slippery conditions

Surprised by a short snow squall near the summit. This was a great adventure for these 2 visitors from Minneapolis. Gorgeous views. The rock climbing part was not too challenging and we enjoyed our hike

Fascinating hike. We we're a bit worried to go after reading reviews, but it was so much fun! For the first hike ever it was a bit challenging, but only in a good way. We really enjoyed it so did not we only completed Beehive trail, but also Champlain Mountain trail as well. Definitely was a bit challenging but totally worth it!

We loved this trail. Although it can be scary for those with a fear of heights, two members of our group with that fear enjoyed the trail immensely. Their advice would be "Don't look down! Concentrate on the trail." Although the hike requires climbing over rocks and metal bars, it is not as strenuous as it seems. Good hiking shoes are highly recommended. It took us about an hour going up the trail and also going down it (not counting the time we spent taking pictures). We would definitely recommend the Beehive Loop -- it was our highlight of Acadia.

I completed this hike with my son 28 July 2022, a bright sunny/hot day, and we had a blast. We are both intermediate level hikers and backpackers and have never done any technical/rope climbing. I’m not very excited about walking next to a sheer drop off, and I’m a little afraid of heights. I was pensive in my preparation, but had a lot of confidence in our abilities. I’m not in excellent shape, but more than capable of hiking 5 miles or so. My son and I found this hike/climb easy (I was the only one winded) and very rewarding.
Here are my recommendations that I would’ve wanted to know prior to embarking on this adventure.
- Go as early as possible so you can avoid the crowds. If not you will take a long time to complete the hike because of having to wait for people in front of you to navigate the climbing sections.
- The Beehive Loop Trail head is “well marked”, but if you blink you will miss it. Park anywhere around or in the Sand Beach parking areas. If you go past Sand Beach, it is a long way to circle back (like 30-min) because the Park Loop Road is one way.
- Wear decent hiking shoes/boots. We wore good sneakers and slipped more than a few times. The granite rocks have a lot of wear due to the heavy people traffic on the trail.
- I had no idea that the trail has a junction point where you can decide to do the steep climb, or hike the easier way up to the summit. This point is right after the trail section marked with a few A-Frame Barricades from the park service for caution (maybe 10 min into the hike). Ask for the location from other hikers if you are unsure.
- The drop-offs are not as steep as I thought they would be. I had no problem navigating the trail, and I never felt like my safety was in jeopardy.
- I wore an Osprey day-pack and we had water and a few snacks for the summit. I highly recommend bringing a day pack and water, especially if it is a hot day.

Loved loved loved this trail! The trail has some difficult parts (pulling yourself up on iron bars) but is very doable. Not for people who are afraid of heights. The views at the top are worth it. The trail on the back side of the mountain are easier. Still rock scrambling but not straight up and down.

This trail sounds scary but it really is doable if you have moderate hiking skills and take your time (and don't mind heights). We parked at Sand Beach and cross the road to start the hike. Initial part of the hike is basically scrambling up boulders (reminded me of the base of Devil's Tower). Once it hits the rock face it snakes back and forth across the face with several spots were you are climbing imbedded ladders. We managed to get 4 kids (ages 11, 9, 7, 6) up the trail with minimal difficulty (had to lift the 6 year old a couple spots cause she's not tall enough to reach the handholds). View from the top was amazing. Hike down the back side was more of a rock scramble but would have been easier so if heights are your problem you could probably come up and go back down the back and be fine.

Very cool Trail, it overlooks Sand Beach. Parking was tough when I was there. This is a pretty Challenging Trail, almost Rock Climbing. I don't recommend this hike for anyone who has any fear of heights.

Hi,
Couple of questions - 1. Clearly going counter clockwise exposes you to the scary stuff and beautiful views. How is the part going clockwise and returning the same side, thus avoiding the tough parts? I have read that it is easy. But is it easy enough to take a toddler carrier too on my back? I am 38 and have a 2 yr old. I'm fairly fit and we have hiked the peaks in Colorado, Montana etc.
2. Without kids on my own - I have a decent fear of heights and have looked at the videos posted on YouTube multiple times. From what I see, I can understand the fear of heights part, but I don't see any parts of the trail that are technical dangerous. Is my understanding correct? For ex, the iron rods crossing part looks bad on video/photos, but may not be as bad? And the part where you walk on a board and go around the corner, seems like there is a rod that one can hold onto, take one deep breath and push ourselves to do it. Thanks for your input...

Can anyone who’s been to Acadia recently comment on how crowded the trail are? Did you wear a mask while hiking? Did others?

this particular trail is not very crowded. We met 5-6 couples coming down and 2-3 more on the way back. We would put our masks on when we passed them. Some of them didn't wear masks.
I am going to Acadia with my family a few friends but I don't know if others will be up for this hike. I am physically fit and able to do it. Question is, is it safe to do this hike alone?

Yes, totally. Your family can sit by the beach or something and you can complete this hike. While it's not a very long hike the only thing is the exposed cliffs, if you have a fear of height or crossing narrow wooden boards then NO. If you don't, then it should be totally fine. It's the best hike in the entire park and you will be rewarded with excellent views.

Can anyone show me photos of the scariest parts? I think I can manage it from the photos I have seen but I don't know if they are the worst of it! Many thanks in advance

Hi I just hiked it yesterday. In my photos it shows a section where there are metal bars that you need to use to go up vertically. Hope that helps!

i am trying to decide between Beehive Trail and Precipice Trail. Seems like they both have good amount of climbing and iron rungs. which one is more recommended ? Thank you in advance for your time.

I hiked both, Precipice is much more rewarding, of course much more climb. I recommend to do Precipice. For the Precipice you can do the loop when you going downhill, which is much quicker and eliminates going down the ladders. The last section will be walking along the road tho.

My husband and I are older (I'm 70) but in good shape and have done strenuous hikes of several hours in mountains in CA. I'm considering Acadia for next June. I don't like dangerous hikes, but I'm fine with strenuous. It seems Acadia's hikes are either dangerous or not very long, with elevation gain. Are there any hikes to a destination you can't get to by car?

Cadillac Mountain you are able to drive to the summit... they also have a lot of mild trails as well. The area is beautiful and I definitely recommend?
Is there a swimming hole at the top?

Can I get to the trail head via the park shuttle? Our cruise ship is in Bar Harbor and it is my understanding that we can pick up the shuttle in Bar Harbor.

Yes I believe the shuttle to the park...then there are different shuttles within Acadia you'd have to find out which line takes you to sand beach stop
