The Anping Fort was one of the landmarks in Anping. Not far from Anping Tree House. The entrance was not located at the Main Street and walked about several minutes to find the ticketing booth. Affordable price. The Zeelandia Museum provided some historical information. The scouting deck offered panoramic views of surrounding in Anping. Nice to walk around to explore more. There was a good show at 11:00. Their stories were positive and supportive.

There are a lot of people here on the weekends, so it's best to visit during the week. There's not a lot of the old fort left, but the tower (built in 1975) allows for nice views of the surrounding area. There's not much of a museum here to give historical information, but the grounds are still beautiful and fun to walk around. Some of the banyan trees are quite impressive.

I took a taxi because it is near the west coast of Tainan city. The buildings that were maintained during the Japanese rule remain and are now registered as a national historic site. There is also a landmark observation deck of Anping Ancient Fort, so I went up there. From the observation deck, you can also see the view of Tainan, which means it was built near the coast. This will be my third visit here as well.

Summer is scorching hot in Anping Old Street. Anping Old Fort (or former Fort Zeelandia) is a tall landmark that is hard to miss. The entrance is annoying to find as it is not at the Main Street. You need to walk around the main street to another end where there is a ticketing booth. Ticket price is cheap at about NT $70 for adult fare. Opening hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm.
The fort is well maintained. The greenery is well pleasant to see and some of the exhibits are interesting like the opium pipe. It is nice but not a must visit place.
What I really like about the fort is the air conditioned exhibition area inside the fort. It is a good escape from Anping street that is hot and not sheltered. Overall this fort is not a must visit place. Probably it is a nice aircon place to escape the heat after a nice local food meal.

This is the oldest castle in Taiwan, built by the Dutch in the 17th century. Along with Chihkan Tower, it is a must-see spot in Tainan. The castle walls covered with banyan trees are worth seeing. I visited on a weekday morning, but it was crowded with Chinese group tourists.

An interesting place to visit and would put on the to do list if in the area. There isn’t much shade in the fort and it does get very hot when walking round.

Historical place to understand about Taiwan international trade. You could learn how Taoyuan/ Taiwan history, and experience the sightseeing from the tower

The old fort was first established by the Dutch East India Company before it fell into ruin and then repurposed by the Japanese colonial period. It's fascinating that the Dutch party of the first still remains. The area where you'll probably spend the most time is the Zeelandia Museum. The video documentary on archeology and history is very informative. The major sections of the Zeelandia museum have English, but not the individual exhibits. The second best area is probably the upper section where the surveillance tower is located. It's worthwhile climbing the 4 storeys to get fantastic panoramic views of Anping.

An interesting look back on Tainan’s establishment. English on some of the presentations. Used Google Translate on many. A few hours well spent.

There is not much left of the original fort – foundations and part of the wall. There is a small museum, so it is worth to go with a guide who wll tell the story of the place. Old fort was part of our tour and we had good guide, so it was fine, but I am not sure it is the place I would recommend.
