The museum is a very good place to visit at Darjeeling/ Ghum. It has very nice old photographs showing the actual scenery that was existing the glory days of the Toy train

The very DHR Station of Kurseong is as good as an archive and a heritage site. In that respect, every DHR Toy Train station is an archive, preserving the original heritage. Thanks to the timely initiatives of the Indian Railways and the UNESCO’s recognition. The small town with the main market has developed around the station.
The museum is located in the Kurseong station and is accessible from the platform itself. A board above the door reads 'D.H.R. Archives' and is kept locked for the simple reason that not many are aware of its existence and no attender is posted exclusively for the purpose. However, if one makes a request to the clerk at the booking office and pays the nominal entry fee, then he will be allowed to visit the large room filled with the appropriately labelled exhibits and artefacts along with the documentation of the evolution of the amazing hill passenger railway.
This is one of the three museums of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which show cases the history and evolution of the famous steam engine hauled Toy Train designed by the British during the colonial days and commissioned in 1880s to provide a vital public transport in the steep gradients. The other two are at Sukna and Ghum Stations.
One can see many original exhibits, such as the sections of early rails and other components used on the original DHR railway tracks laid in 1880, as well as the equipment used to lay and join the rails. Also can be seen several pictures and sketches that depict the images of some original engines and coaches and also demonstrate the innovative technologies and engineering marvels developed to negotiate the highly steep and difficult hilly terrain, like the loops and reverses.
Opposite to the end of the platform is present the Railway Wagon Turntable of the Toy Train. I recall my childhood days in the late 1960s, when I used to wonder at the sight of the huge steam engine being turned only by two men (on either side of the bridge on which the loco would be stationed) to reverse the direction of the engine.
If you can afford to visit North Bengal, I strongly recommend that you please take your children on a full ride in the DHR, which is the first and still the most outstanding example of a hill passenger railway, just to make them understand and appreciate the wisdom of the engineers of even the nineteenth century and the capability of the Lepchas, Nepalese and others, who have worked hard in the challenging climatic conditions and terrain, to establish the railways.
