The Garden of Surging Waves is a nice little park downtown that gives a tribute to the contributions of the Chinese to Astoria. There is a nice pagoda, mosaic, and sculptures to enjoy. Unless you want sit and enjoy for a while, it is a quick stop while exploring downtown. It is a very well done tribute and should not be missed.

Very beautiful and thoughtful. Extra pretty at night, but did feel a bit creepy and there were some solo folks staring at me. Very close to many things and worth seeing if you are in Astoria.

This outdoor space has lovely plants and many interesting stories of the Chinese who made many contributions to the development of the Pacific Northwest. Highly recommend walking through here.

An important Chinese tribute and recognition for their part in Northwest history. Take time to learn and understand the contribution that the Chinese made to this area. Beautifully done. Hats off to Astoria for this cultural recognition.

My husband and I stumbled upon this park while exploring Astoria. What a gem! The design of the park, which is in honor of the Chinese immigrants who contributed so to the culture of Astoria, is extremely interesting. It is peaceful and lovely for photographs. A 'not to be missed" gem for sure!

It is a very small park/area but it is great for pictures and tons of information. My daughter is in ballet and that made for great pictures. Will go back in the summer time for a photo shoot there.

This little gem is located on a city block in downtown Astoria where formerly stood the Safeway , So it's a bit of a win-win. Astoria got a newer bigger Safeway and downtown got the Garden of Surging Waves! It honors Chinese immigrants that worked in the canneries and other industries around Astoria through sculptures. The Pavilion of Transition is the focal centerpiece which features a mosaic floor. Every sculpture in the garden has a symbolic meaning all of which is explained by a plaque at the front . I find it's a very welcome place to visit often - for peace and tranquility right in the heart of downtown which means one can conveniently continue their walking exploration of art at the local galleries nearby.

Located on a city block in downtown Astoria, the Garden of Surging Waves honors Chinese immigrants that worked in the canneries and other industries around Astoria through sculptures. The centerpiece is called the Pavilion of Transition that features a mosaic floor with fish and columns carved with a dragon motif. Every sculpture in the gardens has a symbolic meaning and a plaque at the front explains everything. We just happened to stumble on this while walking around and it is free.
