Some major issues. The steps to two of the three viewing stations at Gorge Falls are closed and they have been for at least two years. My question is why aren't visitors informed of these closures before they walk to the falls? Also at the Black River Harbor Park I could find only one handicap parking space and it was approximately 150 yards away from the handicap restroom? I would argue that this is not very accessible.

We had to take a detour due to road closure in Bessemer. No biggie.

This is a National Scenic Road in the Ottawa National Forest. The only fee area we saw was by the beach & that was $5.

The road itself is very pleasant & there's 5 different waterfalls you can hike to. If you're fit the walk shouldn't be a problem, but my hiking buddy has mobility issues & could only visit one.

The forest service needs to trim the foliage at these observation points!!

Great Conglomerate Falls - 3/4 mile. The hike is fine, then starts to descend. He made it to the point where the descent was more severe. There's stairs after that. The falls are beautiful.

Potawatomi Falls & Gorge Falls share a parking lot. Go left when the falls road splits for the handicap area. 1/8 mile barrier free for Potawatomi Falls - very nice flow.
Gorge Falls is 1/8 mile to the left. This would be a great waterfall, but stairs are blocked due to unsafe steps. Pity..

Sandstone Falls - .25 miles. Stairs, stairs & more stairs. They suck! This is a very scenic waterfall though. If you're fit - it's worth it.

Rainbow Falls - .5 miles of stairs again to a pitiful overlook. The waterfall must be very nice, but it makes a right hand turn right at the observation site & you can't get a good view. It turns out there's a trail on the other side of the river that has a better view. Take the road to the end & park in the beach parking lot.

Black River Harbor - The beach lot is the $5 fee area. There's a nice park like area with pit toilets. & a picnic area.
The suspension bridge is wonderful! It takes you across the river to the left - the beach. To the right the river trail.

So, now they're charging a $5.00 fee for even walking on the beach?! Or hiking Rainbow Falls? The worst part is we live here! We used to hike this trail three or four times a week. We snowshoe here every winter. So, we'll have to pay $5.00 every darn time or get their "yearly pass"?
It's not the fee so much as the principle behind this. We already pay taxes for our federal parks to be maintained. Now, we have to pay another $5.00 every time we want to hike or visit the beach? It's ridiculous. There isn't much to do in our small town. What happens to those people who can't afford to visit the park anymore? Unfortunately, this must be a new implementation. We were just here a few weeks ago, and the pay station wasn't here. Inflation is bad enough. They're nickel and diming people to be able to enjoy the fresh air and our forests. Ridiculous!

We a neat area. We visited in the late 1990s and got back with our family and found it easy to get around, trails were well marked, but be prepared for lots of stairs to see most of the waterfalls. Give yourself a few hours to explore it all and not be rushed.

Beautiful area in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Many waterfalls to explore and the Black River ends up in Lake Superior.

We popped into the visitor's center later in the day to pick up information on local waterfalls. The staff was very helpful giving us person insight into the trails to each of the falls so we could make an informed choice on which to go see. The displays were very interesting and our children enjoyed learning about the local wildlife.

We visited each of the water falls along the way, easy parking, some were more difficult to get to but each had their own beauty. Nice morning activity, enjoyed the walk amongst the trees.

Great place to visit, especially for young children. Good orientation to the wildlife of this national forest and information on the Upper Peninsula as well as forestry conservation. Easy stop and interest to all ages. I've enjoyed bringing foreign visitors as they get a good picture of the northwoods.
