My Mom and I went for her Birthday and absolutely love this place! We chose the Massage/Facial package... the best massage ever and my face felt amazing! Felt brand new afterwards. Everyone was so gracious... it was the perfect day!

The purpose of our trip to Santa Barbara was to enjoy a girl's weekend and spa day. Going to SEA SPA was a big mistake. First of all, their web page is misleading as the spa is not in Santa Barbara - it's in Carpenteria, in a rustic cottage that has no landscape that resembles a Mediterranean retreat. Here is a summary from the four of us. First of all, two of us were lucky enough to get blankets, but the other two were underneath a bath towel. Our feet were wrapped in hand towels. Both technicians talked the entire time, spoke loudly and criticized our eating habits, our former skin treatments and proclaimed that they were to the secret to the entertainment industry. This is impossible to believe, for our treatments were far from luxury and had no relaxation whatsoever. Each treatment was going to be customized but after comparing stories, we all realized that we had had the identical treatment, except one was lucky enough to have a scalp massage, but another had a face and hand massage with medical rubber gloves. Then two of us ended our treatment with a dry towel being tossed over our face, while the technician proclaimed that we should just relax now under the towel. Really, it was such an absurd treatment, that we were fortunate enough to howl with laughter instead of cry. We should have read the other reviews first. So, we encourage you all to take heed and stay away from SEA SPA, simply because it is not a spa. There is no shower, there is no changing room, there are no robes or slippers, and the only thing they give you are plastic shower shoes, which come from a small basket in the lobby and are clearly reused. This is a nutty place.

I have a gift certificate for Sea Spa, I called once and left a message and never got a call back (probably because I mentioned the gift certificate in my message.) I called again a few weeks later and got a person on the phone who told me she had to call me back. She called back and when I mentioned I had a gift certificate she said that this was not her department and that someone would call me back who dealt with gift certificates, that she was the person who made appointments. I said I was calling to make an appointment so I didn’t understand why I couldn’t at that time. She said that she couldn’t help me and that it was my fault for not being clear in my first call. I started to explain how hard it was for me to make appointments having 2 small children at home and she hung up on me. I called back a half hour later and she denied ever having talked to me, said I must be having a delusional day or something. Very very disturbing!! I asked her if she was really trying to deny having talked to me and she hung up on me again. I kept calling back and she would not answer the phone again. I am glad I stumbled across these reviews because I would have thought I was loosing my mind. I did ask her several times during all this what her name was, who owned the place, and where they were located and could not get any of this information. There is no way I would ever go to this spa except to maybe post these and other awful reviews on her building and door so that other unsuspecting clients don’t get taken advantage of. I can’t imagine that they have any “elite” clientele since they are advertising special deals and discounted packages. I’d think you would only do that if you were desperate for clients.

Based on the reviews, I was nervous to redeem my gift certificate for a 1.5 hour "Ultimate Spa" massage/facial at Sea Spa. I can only say I was very pleasantly surprised. From the time I called to make the appointment, I was treated with warmth and courtesy. The phone was answered promptly and I was able to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time. If you want a weekend appointment you need to call several weeks in advance. Sea Spa schedules their clients to maximize privacy and you will rarely see another client during your visit. The massage was excellent and professional. The facial left my skin glowing. The spa itself is well decorated and the treatment rooms are lovely. The masseuse was very knowledgeable and friendly. I left feeling rejuvenated and I would definitely go back.

I should have listened, I shouldn't have done it, but I did. I made a reservation at Sea Spa and had by far the most unpleasant spa experience of my life.

In fact, I can't even tell you how the services were. As I lay nude under a damp aromatherapy blanket on the treatment table my "therapist" berated me for coming into their "healthy environment". I had told her I was just getting over a chest cold and was happy to be there. She told me she couldn't afford to get another cold from another customer and what are "you people" thinking when you come in sick. I told her I was on the tail end of it, not sneezing or coughing anymore, and she said that's what the last lady said.

She put a towel over my mouth and nose and said that would stay there until the facial, then she'd put it back so I wouldn't breathe on her. When she said," this is a spa, not a hospital, you should have never come in" that was it. I threw the blanket off of me and said I was leaving, I didn't like her attitude. She said, "My attitude? You're the one who is sick." I said that I'd come for a massage, not a scolding. If she believes I'm too sick for her to work with me than I should leave. She told me I would pay for it. All of this while I'm getting dressed, getting my things and getting out, shaking all over because I can't believe this is happening.

I sat at the Coffee Bean up the street waiting for my husband to pick me up. I've been to spas all over the country. High end, low budget, everything in between. I never imagined anything like this could happen in a spa, a place of healing, a place where I'm willing to pay hundreds of dollars for bodywork, skin care, and a sense of well-being.

If the therapist felt she was in danger of being infected by me, if that were even valid, she could have asked me, nicely, to reschedule. There are scores of ways to handle situations in which one feels uncomfortable. Berating a customer, nude and vulnerable on your massage table, isn't a good choice. And then expecting said customer to lay there and take it and then PAY for it is simply insane.

My husband wanted me to find another place. It was our vacation after all and I should treat myself, go to a spa, relax. I was and am gun shy. Confrontation is hard, confrontation in a spa is downright upsetting. Will I get another massage/facial/body treatment sometime, somewhere. I guess so, eventually. But never ever at Sea Spa in Santa Barbara.

I was very scared to go here after reading the 2 reviews, but had heard good things elsewhere and gave it a shot. I think the problem is that they call themselves a spa. Its really more of a bodywork center with experts in the field. The lady who worked with me had done training in Sweden and was VERY serious about the work. There is no pampering. There is no attempt to make things luxe. What is here is the best damn massage I have ever gotten- it went past a massage. It was great.

This is by far the worst spa imaginable. The customer service is HORRIBLE ! If you are looking for a spa to help you relax, this is NOT the place. I have been to many spas, both large and small, and have always been treated pleasantly. The Sea Spa was a different story. I was astonished at the rudeness at the Sea Spa and would never go back, nor would I ever refer anyone to them. There are many other spas in Santa Barbara which deserve the business of those looking for a relaxing spa experience - I assure you that the Sea Spa is not what you are looking for.

I visited Sea Spa on my recent trip to Santa Barbara and was disappointed with my experience there. I am a big fan of spas and frequent them wherever I travel, whether in the U.S. or abroad.
Basically, what I look for in a spa, is a "healing" type of atmosphere where I can feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and peaceful. And I look for brilliant customer service. But unfortunately, I found Sea Spa to be fundamentally lacking in all these areas. Although I wouldn't have known this by the way the facility looks because visually, it is very lovely. So based on looks, my expectation was high. But you cannot judge a book by its cover. Service is everything... it is the true soul of a spa. So what about the soul of Sea Spa? My opinion is that the "soul" at Sea Spa was far more "business" oriented that client oriented. I actually became stressed out because I felt I was being pressured with sales tactics. In general I found the staff to be a little rude and domineering. This is not a spa where I felt comfortable making requests either. Any requests I made at the spa (regarding anything from treatment styles or add-ons, to payment methods, to scheduling issues) were followed by an authoritative "lecture." I rarely once heard "yes, we can try to meet your needs." The overall feeling I got from them is this: "It's our way or the highway." This made me feel like money is the most important issue there. Personally, this is not a spa I would ever visit again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Sorry to say... but true.
