Fantastic experience. I've done a few "native village" visits around the world, and this was by far the best. The village is actually authentic and you get to actually see the way they live. They still retain a lot of their traditions and lifestyle.

Firstly, one guide explained how it works with the chief, politics, history, etc. Then a different guide walked us around the village and explained their way of life. You get to meet a lot of villagers along the way and they are usually happy to chat and show you inside their homes.

Then a group of young villagers did a traditional dance show for us. This part is optional and costs $23. Then we ended at the craft market, selling the usual range of souvenirs. Be warned that the sellers here are very pushy. But we still bought a few small things in order to support them.

Both guides were excellent - their English was superb, they explained everything well and had a relaxed vibe. We tipped them both well (we did not have to pay an entry fee per se). It's also a good idea to bring things for the kids of the village - toys, souvenirs, sweets etc

I booked the tour through my resort because I was traveling solo, and hiring a car wouldn`t have cost any cheaper. I was expecting a tourist attraction but visited a genuine village with over 7000 inhabitants. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and she gave a good overview of the village life. I interacted with the local people, visited homesteads, and watched a dancing performance. I even got to see a part of Chief Mukuni`s quarters. The tour lasted around 3 hours and I didn`t feel at all rushed. The village lives off tourism so the tour naturally ended at the craft market.

Loved our tour! The people were so welcoming and happy to answer any questions about their lives. Loved visiting the school and the children, although we had to remind the guide to take us there (even though we were told that was part of the tour). Only complaint was it felt a little rushed and the market is totally 'overwhelming' to the point we had to ask our guide to apologise and leave, as we were bombarded with so many stalls, we just couldn't buy something from each and every one, even though we would have loved to. A bit pricey also. In the end we felt it was a bit of a money grab. Please take some books and things for the children if you visit, they will be your highlight! It was still an entirely true incredible African experience. 🦁 🦒 🐒 🐃

We had free time prior our flight so chose to visit. HOW interesting. We learned a lot about this village of 7000 people, who maintain their simple ways. Goats roam freely, children have freedom and everyone was pleasant. A group of young people danced for us, and my son braved a taste of their “home brew!”…the crafts they sell are make there and proceeds used community wide.
Worth the visit.

This is notionally an unspoiled Zambian bush village, of several thousand inhabitants. We paid our resort $55 each. The “entry” fee is ( I have since found out) no more than $5, so hire a car and give the difference to the village.
Rant over. The village guide spoke good English and gave a good overview of village life. It was an interesting insight into the past. I accepted a sample of their 7 day home brew millet beer. That’s all I have to say about that.
We came away with some small hand carved items, apparently made in the village ( but available all over Africa!). It’s the thought and the injection of a few USD into the village economy that counts!

We chose to hire a car for a day which saved a ton of money on expensive tours. The actual tour fee if you go there yourselves is the equivalent of $5 a person. Book with a tour company and it’s $50 pp. car hire from around $50 a day.

The village is amazing to look around. A village that is dependent on tours, so you can enjoy your experience knowing you are contributing to their primary income as a community.

As you wonder through the village with your local village guide, you will learn and observe the local community. I felt quite emotional as we toured - such a simple life, one which is without all the mod cons, making me reconsider what is really important or necessary in life.

It’s a tour that will fascinate young and old. The type of scenes that you learned about at school or in a National Geographic journal, yet here is the real deal

There is nothing commercial or tacky about this tour. It’s a real village, really community, you’re just privileged enough to see it

One of our favourite experiences in Zambia. Excellent charming guide able to answer all our questions. Fascinating history and continuing culture. Sustainable buildings and lifestyle. Post covid the village needs more visitors and they are clearly poor but remain polite friendly and cheerful.
Goods artisan craft market with best prices we found in 3 weeks in Zambia.

This tour was only a few hours long but was excellent in giving me a small insight into village life. A local does take you around and gives a very interesting walking tour of how the huts are made and also some details of the workings of a village. The information about the role of a chief was particularly interesting, especially in a modern context.

There was an opportunity to buy handicrafts at the end at the end of the tour. I did feel a little pressured because if you buy just from one trader, the expectation seems to be that you have to buy from everyone, but that is not possible, given that there are about 25 different traders.

Definitely worth a visit.

My family of 4 visited Mukuni Village and took a guided tour of the same that was provided by a native of that village. It was extremely interesting to learn about the customs, traditions and culture of the village. It is so diverse compared to the modern city of Livingstone, which is only a short drive away. The marketplace was awesome and featured a lot of arts and crafts made by the natives of the village. Pricing was extremely affordable for those items. I would certainly very highly recommend visiting Mukuni village and taking a guided tour of the same to those travelers who are keen to know about a different culture within the same country.
