This is a lovely park located in North Burnaby. You can go for long walks or choose to enjoy great water views. The trails are easy and have various loops that allow you to choose how much you want to walk on a given day. They can be bit narrow in spots, abut on the positive side, most trails are well shaded - which can be a very important factor on a hot day. To cool-down, you canstroll to the waterfront, where you will be able to see a host of birds and enjoy the large lake in the middle of the city.

As an avid cyclist I am disappointed that there have been no options for bicycles. Cyclists are told to bypass the entire park via an industrial thoroughfare. The route is touted as family friendly but is death defying even for adults. No scenic paths. No breath of nature. Just white knuckle riding and truck fumes. I would give Burnaby Lake park a 0 if I could.

I usually come down here in the summer heat, and escape the direct sunlight under the tree-covered trails. But, getting a bit restless after a few weeks of cold weather, thought I'd come check out what it's like in the winter. I was quite surprised to see quite a few birdwatchers, and as many birds as I see in summer. Canada Geese, ducks, pigeons, and a few smaller birds my untrained eye couldn't identify. So, if you like this sort of thing, as I do, c'mon down, and remember it is free!
A fair bit of parking on both sides of the tracks. There was a bit of snow here and there on the trails, so maybe a few weeks too early for a serious hike.
Paper trail maps available at the office; washrooms too.

We had a nice time watching the birds, ducks and geese by the lake. Then we headed out for one of many walking trails near the lake. Very quiet and peaceful during the week.

I was trying to ride my bike with my 3yr old daughter along the Burnaby Greenway but when I got to Burnaby Lake we were confronted with countless "no cycling" signs. We detoured along the bike lane to the north of the park. Needless to say I wasn't impressed how the traffic was whizzing by between 60 to 80km/h. I didn't find this bike lane particularly green as it goes along a industrial zone. Not the best route for a family to take with young children. They should open up at least one of the numerous trails so cyclists have one path through the park.

I always enjoy this two-pronged playground, as I can start with a hardy walk, and end with some great water views.
The trails are well packed and easy on the ankles, and have various "loops", thus permitting journeys of various lengths. However, they are quite narrow in spots, and can be uneven. On the positive side, there are no bikes permitted, and most trails are well shaded - an important attribute on a hot sunny day.
For a cool-down period, consider a stroll to the waterfront, where you can marvel at the birds and enjoy the serenity of this large lake in the middle of the city.
Adequate parking nearby, but I always park on the north side of the CN main line.

We come here quite often. You don't have to drive out of the city to be among nature. You can hear the traffic in the distance but it isn't that bad. Listening to the birds and watching the ducks/geese is always fun. Perfect place to go for a quick walk or a long one any time of year.

Barnet is a fairly nice beach on the inlet approaching Port Moody. Great views and lots of grassy areas. Safe to swim...most of the time. However, parking and traffic is some of the worst I have ever seen. Parking is about a half kilometer away but drop off and pick up is allowed at the beach. Always chaos at peak times. Finally, the geese have thoroughly polluted every inch or so it seems.

A very well maintained trail used mostly by runners and walkers. On days when I want to run fast, I will come to Burnaby Lake and run my heart out on the 10km loop. There are several nice view points dotting the lake, you won’t miss them. Do make a trip up the lookout tower where you get a better view of the lake and surrounding areas. Most parts of the trails are exposed so be prepared for the elements. This trail is fairly crowded, especially on the North side (Piper Ave), and less so on the South side. Weekend will see lots of crowd.

This was a large, pleasant park, with all the tall, iconic Northwest Coast Fir, Cedar, and Maple trees. The park is large, but the path follows a mostly circular pattern.
