Be sure to check in with a docent when you visit. Knowledgeable staff will help you better understand the collections, and can answer any questions you have about the individual objects. The grounds are beautiful, too. Plan to spend a couple of hours there.

I have often passed this County-run museum on the way down to Cherry Valley and finally took the time to check it out—Glad I did. I am an art lover and amateur art historian. The quality of this collection surprised me. From the moment you enter, there are numerous decorative and framed works to appreciate.

The museum’s collection tends to focus on Italian Art as well as works from Japan and China, thanks to Mr. Dean, who acquired many unique works from his job as an art dealer in the first half of the 20th Century. The curators/docents are very knowledgeable about the collection and can relate stories about the art, as well as the era it came from.

Military Veterans receive free admission. There was a pianist playing in one of the parlours during our visit which added to the ambience. Small children may find it tedious, but otherwise there is something for everyone to see. This is one of the best things Riverside County does for its taxpayers so I hope it continues for a long time!

Having passed the Dean-Edward Museum on our way up to pick blackberries, when the crop was less than expected, we had time to stop at this hidden gem. A high school volunteer led us through antiquities curated into parlors and libraries. The gardens are beautiful and host weddings and other celebrations. If you’re in the area, don’t miss! It’s a quick trip to the past and antiques saved from the treacheries of war.

I used to be a docent at this museum some years ago when I was going to UCR. As such, I got to tour all of the museum's nooks and crannies. It is amazing that such a collection has been accumulated and it should be appreciated and studied by many.....

This rather small museum is packed with a large variety of interesting items which are well-displayed in several rooms on two floors.. There are docents for a tour or to just answer questions. You can also stroll in the gardens and admire how well they are kept up. It's difficult to recommend 'length of visit' because depends on whether you read and carefully view every/most items or just those that are of interest to you.

A fantastic hidden gem museum slightly off the beaten path in Cherry Valley (just outside of Beaumont). The museum is built as if it were a house and is furnished in European, English, and Asian styles. They have an exhibition room with a rotating exhibit. When we were there, they were showing 11th and 12th century Chinese Pottery. Beautiful.
Definitely worth getting off Interstate 10 to visit.

This is a hidden gem way off the road and unless you look for it. Was build to house a private collection of antiques, books and art. Has a nice rose garden and the tour was great. A place to go to see something different up close.

It seems 1/2 hour away in Palm Springs very few people know of this small museum. Beautifully displayed with mostly fine European and Asian antiques, it's well worth the visit. The museum rests on scenic grounds which are often rented out for weddings and such. There's even a coy pond. if you're in the area well worth the stop.

I recently revisited this fine, formerly private decorative arts museum in Cherry Valley (10 minutes from Banning/Beaumont, CA) and found it much as I remembered from 25 years ago - a jewel. Now managed by Riverside County, the collection is strikingly unusual. With just a $5 entry fee, skipping a visit to the Edward-Dean should be a misdemeanor. A friend who has lived in Banning for 11 years had never heard of it. I suspect the County doesn't want to spend any money on advertising, but there is a link to it on the County website. The place deserves to be much better known than it is. It's a genuine southern CA treasure and seems to be primarily maintained and supported by an active Friends (volunteers) group. Allow 1-2 hours to see both the interior collection and landscaped grounds. Open Thurs-Sat., 10AM - 4 PM.
