Basilica
Big, ornate and kinda over the top for such a smallish city. Iconic and historical gothic style of architecture. I like checking out various temples, chapels, and synagogues…not to find fault with decor or style but to celebrate the faiths they reflect. Yeah, this is worth a visit.

Beautiful basilica that was blessed by Pope Pius XI in 1929. The first cathedral burned down in 1913. It's very beautiful inside, definitely worth peeking inside to see.

This church was supposed to be open from 8am, but when we got there about 9.30am it was still not open, so we continued on our walk and returned about midday to find it open. We walked here, and around the town, from the cruise port. The basilica is well worth visiting, and should be on your list of places to see in Charlottetown. We really enjoyed Charlottetown.

This church is in downtown Charlottetown, it is easy to spot and has an imposing presence in town. The exterior is impressive, the interior less so, though not bad. Worth a picture and a quick visit inside.

This National Historic Site Catholic Cathedral is located in downtown Charlottetown. A large sign is posted outside the church allowing people to visit. If there is a service going on, a sign is also posted asking you not to visit at that time—but please come back!

St. Dunstan is named for an Archbishop of Canterbury circa 950AD. The first churches at the present spot in the early 19th century were primitive wooden churches. The first stone structure came to be in 1907. However, a fire destroyed most of the church in 1913. In 1929, the present structure on Great George Street came to be.

The Cathedral is quite impressive with its twin 200-foot Gothic Revival towers. St. Dustan’s Basilica is not nearly the size of many European churches we have seen. The stain glass windows are impressive though. If you look directly right when you first enter, there is a stain glass which appears to us to be the founding fathers of the Confederation.

When we visited a young woman was practicing her beautiful singing. The ambiance made the moment memorable for us.

The largest church in PEI is actually St. Jude Church in Tignish which is in the northwestern part of the island—not far from the North Point Lightstation.

There are 27 Basilicas in Canada. St. Dunstan is not only a “Basilica,” but also designated as a Cathedral as it is home to the bishop. If you found this review to be “helpful” in any way, please click “Thumps-up” to let me know.

I haven't seen anything like this east of Ste. Anne deBeaupre in Quebec. Truly gorgeous gothic cathedral. Quite a few other old churches in the same area but this is something else!

This church is so beautiful! The stained glass windows, carvings and statues are all very beautiful. There’s candles to light in memory of loved ones, for a donation.

Absolutely stunning. This basilica was completed in 1919 and is a very fine example of High Victorian Gothic Revival Architecture. This was the highlight of our day trip to PEI while travelling across Canada.
